Which Mag for best/longest OAL?

Guys which magazine out there allow for the longest internal dimensions to maximize OAL for a mag fed gun? I bought a defiance action thinking it was for an internal box and was going to go with an extended Wyatts but it will only accept bottom metal for a mag. I want as much freedom to have as long an OAL as possible to get VLD type bullets as close tot eh lands as possible and have notices some detachable mags have more room than others. which has the best as they all seem generally pretty short for VLD and heavy for caliber bullets? for those of you who like the mag and don't want to go the single shot route do you change reamer specs to allow fro shorter freebore so you can kiss the lands and still have ammo that is mag length?

I don't know if this will help you but Berger bullets web site has information on the reloading of the VLD's.

Can't find the OAL specs on any of the HS Precision detachable mags, would have thought that would be readily available information.

Is this for a long or short action? I ran seekins precision bottom metal (long action) and single stack AI .300 Win magazines on the 6.5x284 rebal action gun i built for my father-in-law. I have another .300 mag at home that i will be modifying so i could get some oal lenght for you .

The most flexibility is achieved using a short action caliber in a long action. That is one advantage of the 300 WSM over the 300 WM. Dailing back the freebore specs in the reamer will certainly help, but that causes you to encroach into powder capacity so that can be a delcate dance.

most mags will max out around 3.650 you might find some that will get out to 3.725 but I dont think you will get much longer than that,,may be some custom mags that would take some custom fitting to get a little longer

He is a pic of an AI 300 win magazine. I dont have any 300 win mag brass or bullets so i can seat one and how you as a referance. But hopefully this will help.

thanmsk guys. yes i have done the short action round in a long action quite effectively i just always wanted a regular 300 WM. and have the brass and dies all set. Just trying to find the best of all worlds if i can. combo of longest internal dimension mag and slightly shorter freebore should hopefully get me there.

I believe the accuracy international cip length bottom metal would be a great choice for you, it will allow for a little longer oal than the standard saami mags, you do have to search a little more but the cip length is out there. I know seekins makes bottom metal for it but not sure about others
