Which indicator?

now that I have a lathe on its way. I need to know what indicators are you guys using to indicate the bore in? I'm assuming a .0005 long stem?

Interapid 312b-15 that's the long stem. I also use a 312b-3 its a short stem .0001 and I have a mitutoyo 513 pocket test

I use intrepid, be sure to get the larger diameter face. I use the .0005" indicator, it has a .060" range and it easily gets you to the less than .0002" you're looking for when dialing in a barrel. If you're going to be doing a lot of larger calibers, you may not be able to reach the throat with the long stems. I use Gordy G.'s method of a long rod with bushing chucked in the tailstock. It works pretty well.

Check out longislandindicator.com They repair and calibrate indicators and offer some good information. On the home page scroll down to test indicators- brand comparisons

I picked up a used 0.0001 bestest on ebay. They seemed to be the best bang for the buck. Also have a couple of 0.0005 mitutoyo. No long tip indicator yet but plan to get one.

Second the Noga bases.
