Shot a zillion swift rounds.....by far my favorite prairie dog caliber, and I've tried about everything.
No use having a swift if you like .223 velocities, been through a swift barrel or two or maybe several.....Should be able to sizzle a crossed the crony north of 4000 with a 50 or 55 grain and still maintain an acceptable level of safety all the while shooting tiny little groups, and I mean tiny (5 shot) at a 100......load it up with:
H380
AA2700
IMR4064
If your swift won't shoot with one of the above propellants, I'd suspect it may never shoot......but then again.
By the way Swift barrels last way longer then some may lead to believe.
Your telling your age. LarryBack in the day IMR 4064 had no equal in the Swift with 52 gr match
Loaded for a friends sporter Rem 700 classic produced one year in the early 90's. Had the action glass bedded that's all. This thing shot sub quarter inch 3-shot groups at 200, 250, and 300 yards while testing these 2 loads. 37.5 gr IMR 4064 with a Sierra 55 SBT and a CCI BR 2 and 38.8 gr RL 15 with a 52 gr AMAX with a FED 210 M. I wouldn't have believed it if I wasn't there.
SURE WISH I HAD MY 220 SWIFT 700 CLASSIC BACK IN MY SAFE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yote hunter, I owned exact same rifle during mid 90's and mine shot tiny groups also. I actually shot biggest buck of my life using this rifle. One shot to neck and DRT. 55 Nosler BT's over a stout charge of H414. Gun would shoot very small at 100. I'm still kicking myself for getting rid of this rifle.
