which custom 300. Win mag

I’ve stumbled across two different 300 win mags. Both I would change slightly but overal there both a good deal and nice firearms. Curious as to which route you would go!

first is;

surgeon action
26” 5r 1:10 Krieger barrel with apa fat bastard brake fluted
trigger tech primary
cadex dual strike chassis
less then 40 rounds fired

second is

Deviant hunter action crf
krieger 28” 1:8 twist no brake
trigger tech primary
B&C adjustable tactical stock
accurate mag dbm
4 rounds down barrel

both rifles led would need minor work. Surgeon is roughly 700 dollars cheaper no optic but nice hard case. Cadex would be dropped and replaced with a manners or Mcmillan and cadex goes for 2000+ in Canada. Second rifle i would probably have to cut back and add a brake, comes with a viper hst that would be sold and drop then b&c and get a manners or Mcmillan. Both are priced super good but can only afford one. Never handled a surgeon or defiance crf. Rifle will be used for moose hunting with 215 hybrids.

Umm... Moose hunting or Moose Sniping ???

For hunting large meat I use 300winmag in a tupperware stock (pillar and glassed), 24" pencil barrel, no brake and 3-9x40 glass. Tips the scale at 8.3 lbs.

I don't know where you gonna find a Moose that's gonna give you a shot over 400 yards. But most of the time they're well within 100 yards and a PRS type Sniper rifle is not the best tool for walking all day, then maybe having to take a quick shot off hand.

Sorry I'm not much help.

I carry a factory Remington 700 bdl with a razor lh pushing 160 Nosler accubonds for 90% of my moose hunting needs. There are a handful of back swamps we hunt were we can’t get too by road only by boat then a hike in. It’s pretty thick bush around the swamp and shots go from 100-750ish yards. I use to carry my 300. Win mag set up similar to these two builds for this purpose and sold to fund another build and have regretted it since!

Ok I gotcha... If you gotta way to get across the swamp then the longer shots are there for the taking.

Tell you the truth I would pick the rifle that will end up costing you the least.

Just to add... if you don't get responses in this thread I suggest posting it in the "Gun Project Questions & Gunsmithing" sub forum. Plenty of gunsmiths reply there who know these actions inside and out, all the other stuff.

The first one. Reason... You can sell the Cadex for enough to buy the McMillan.. Both are good actions. plus the first one has a little shorter barrel..
