Which comparator Hornady or Sinclair?

Which is better Sinclair or Hornady or are they equal?

ive have used both and i own both...if i was to buy it again id buy sinclair simply because the one i bought has several holes for different calibers and i would not have to buy the inserts for the stoney point. but in my opinion both work fine

I should clarify. I am not talking about the hex comparator from Sinclair. The Sinclair green comparator with insert like the Hornady is what i am talking about. Sorry for any confusion.

I also have both. The Sinclair is probably slightly more accurate, as it measures at a point closer to where the bullet contacts the throat (closer to the bearing surface, almost at full bullet diameter). This also makes it unsuitable for measuring rounds where the bullet is seated to mag length - the comparator will end up stopping on the case mouth rather than the bullet. The Hornady comparator measures quite a bit further up - about .155" on the .224 A-max bullet, for reference.

The Sinclair does fit more snugly on my caliper and the deeper measuring point and beveled edge means less "wobble," but I keep the Hornady on a cheap digital caliper and use it most often since I also load for mag-fed semi-autos.

Like Dave, I found the beveled edges of the Sinclair ones to cause too much sticking and had some issues with repeatability (probably just me).

I went back to the Hornady brand and have no complaints.

I have the "green" sinclair and also the sinclair "Nut" style and when using the Hornady, Sinclair insert and the the Sinclair "nut" comp I get differnet readings off the same bullet by several thous.
