which comp seating die is best

Iam thinking of changing my seating die for a better one,at the moment I am using the RCBS comp die with the interchangable slides,
I know i may have to buy a couple as I do reload a few different calibers for friends, but the main dies would be for a 243 AI and a 7mm WSM
so which will give me the least run out

I've been using the Forster Ultra-seaters with the micrometer adjustment. Very satisfied and they sell for approx. $20 less than the Redding version. But cannot say they are the best, since I've never compared them to all the others that are out there: just my experience with the Forster, and see no reason to change.

No seater,or sizer) can cure bad brass. IMHO any well designed seater will do a satisfactory job with well-prepared brass. Just my 2 cents...

thats fair enough BUT I have one rifle a which is a tight neck and another which I turn to make the brass concentric anyway, hence why Iam looking for the best die which gives minimum run out

Welcome aboard; nice to see you coming here. Personally I use Redding Competition or Forester Ultra Micrometer Seaters for store bought. I also use Jones custom seaters for my F-Class rigs. I love teh Jones dies, they take abit longer to get, but so far have been worth the wait.

in my expierence run-out problems come from sizeing. as some one else on this thread stated any good quality seater die will give satisfactory results. actualy though the best seating die is a straight one made with the same reamer as your chamber.

I cant see where someone has stated that, only that "bad" brass may cause run out,

For long range BR I use Redding Competition Seater, RCBS Gold Medal Seater, and RCBS Competition Seater depending on which ctg. I am loading for. I like the RCBS Gold Medal the best. I made my own sleeve for the RCBS Competition seater, if I were using the factory sleeve I would rate the Redding above the RCBS competition but below the Gold Medal. They all make straight ammo I just prefer the loading window in the RCBS dies.

I prefer the RCBS Compitition Seaters. I like the window to drop the bullet in. I've got 5 that have been matched for the different calibers I shoot. Change the guts to fit your calibers.
221 Fireball,.223, 22 BR, 6BR and .308.

thats food for thought,I could make new slides usinmg my own chamber reamers.
today I actually took apart my redding comp bushing dies and lightly cut the slide by hand,it was amazing how rough it was around the shoulder area, but giving a few turns by hand with my chamber reamer it cleaned them up lovely

The only problem I ran into with the Compitition Seaters was that the tip of the VLD bullets would bottom out in the seater stem. Couldn't get the same seating depth all the time till I figured it out. Drilled the hole in the seater stem a little deeper and that solved the problem. Now they seat to the exact depth that I want. :thumb: All the parts are available from RCBS.,or modify your own as needed) ;)

I have just borrowed a Redding 243AI comp seating die from a mate, man the difference in quality is amazing, the brass holds in the sleave so tight I can see why the give little if no run out, looks like I will be investing in a couple
anyone got any for sale ?? we struggle getting things like this over the pond
