Which Coat??

Am getting a new cordura shooting coat with zippers and vents from Creedmoor for the 2010 season and am wondering whether to go 'hardback' or not. I will be shooting only the AR service rifle competitions this season and wondering what folks who have a hardback coat from Creedmoor think. Would you recommend same? Would you get another hardback if you were to buy a new coat? Thanks for your info.

Yes, get a heavy hardback. Their stiff as a board at first, but, will sofften up quickly. IMO skip the vents and get the zippers.

Creedmoor sports makes a good coat - for cross the course get a hardback. They are pretty much the standard in modern highpower coats. Mine has served me well, and it'll probably last for 5 seasons.

vents and zippers look cool and all but I'm not sure how valuable they really are - my coat has both. I only ever zip up the right zipper (for prone), and I'm not sure how effective the vents are. I've seen some people who's jackets started to come apart at the vents...

creedmoor coats are well made but I'm used to custom fit suits for smallbore 3P and air rifle (~$1500) - By comparison the creedmoor coats are a bit crude (extra material in the butt plate shoulder, uncupped elbow pads, straight back profile). When my creedmoor wears out, I'll be getting one of these: http://www.monard.biz/hp_ultimate.htm

OUCH! "starting at $690" is a bit spendy. I'll likely suffer with a bit of 'crudeness' from Creedmoor for the ~$400 difference. Thanks.

The "crude" Creedmoor Hardback Cordura will do just fine...I have been using the same one for 6 seasons and its still going strong. Oh, and you really dont want that hardback to soften up...its stiff for a reason. ;)

John, I'll have to show you my smallbore suit some day...I think you'd be impressed. It just seems to me that our guns and reloading have become quite advanced, all while we wear uncomfortable, ill-fitting coats. My old $200 champion shooter supply international coat had a much better cut than my $400 creedmoor.

Will an $800 coat make you shoot better? probably not. Its definitely more comfortable though...

My Creedmoor coat does not have the best fit either, but I have a funny build I suppose.

Wish I had gotten the sleeves a little longer and the overall length shorter, or at least cut to consider I have two significant knots for a bum.

I started shooting Service Rifle this past year. Starting out with a sweatshirt, and then moving to the CM hardback cordura. My standing scores really jumped, actually 5 points the first time using the coat. I think it is a great investment, and Creedmoor is a great company to deal with.
