Which bushing for Redding dies?

Hello everyone, I've been lurking for several months and this is my first post as I'm new to the 6BR and dies that require bushings.
I was having a hard time getting my neck to size down as my bullets we're dropping through. I fiddled with the die for about an hour, ruined 4 pieces of brass and came to the conclusion that the die isn't a standard .272 for the caseing. Apparently I'll need a bushing to help squeeze the neck down.
Its a standard chamber, no-turn neck. I shot the Lapua brass straight from the box with good results on paper. I measured the outside diameter of the neck and it read .272 on the dial calipers.
My question being what size bushing do I need in order to secure the bullet in the neck? Or is there more to this than I realized?
Thank you in advance for you reply.

~ 0.272 is the finished neck dia of the loaded 6mmBR with Lapua brass... it can also be the fired neck dia with a no turn chamber, you didn't say)... but you need to bring the neck down a bit.

Get a bushing that is 0.268, and that will get you started.

Here is a thread that is a few days old, and it talks about bushings and the problems of getting them to fit.

You will probably have two or three by the time you get it settled.

Quote CatShooter: 0.272 is the finished neck dia of the loaded 6mmBR with Lapua brass...

First time I've ever disagreed with CatShooter,so far we've never gone fishing or drinking together although I look forward to it) but... the neck diameter of a loaded 6mmBR using unturned Lapua brass will be slightly over 0.270",0.2702 - 0.2706") depending whose bullet it is. That's why the "standard" no turn chamber is 0.272". Gives you about 0.001" clearance all the way around.

I usually use a 0.269" bushing and it will spin the indicator on my K&M press more than half way around. I can use a 0.270" bushing but neck tension will be light but usable. As the brass work hardens after a dozen or so firings you might need a 0.268" if you don't anneal but I've never had to do it and I shoot'em 'til it's embarassing.

Yeah, but I put that little wiggly thing in there "~ 0.272"... they won't get larger than 0.272.

Mine ran 0.271+ with new brass.

I use a 0.268" bushing, and it works pretty well.

Thanks for the lively thread.
I should clarify that the fired brass measures .272,actually .2715, could be the dial calipers though) :)
Looks like I'll be making another order soon.
I don't anneal although with the price of brass it sounds motivating.
thanks a bunch!!!

After running the neck through the bushing you'll get about .001-.0013 springback based on our tests.

You'll get different numbers depending on WHERE on the neck you measure your loaded rounds, but 0.2695 to 0.270 is typical, measuring about 1/3 down the neck).

Considering springback, I recommend a .267 bushing for starters. That will give you about .0015" tension allowing for springback.

My brass is two years old, however. Newer lots may be slightly thicker.
