A topic of discussion......

I have a 20BR that is a GREAT shooting little rifle, built on a 700 action as a repeater I use for coyote hunting....

I'm shooting 50gr Bergers out of it.....3650.....they shoot quite good.....I have shot the 40gr Berger out of it at 4000fps.....they shoot a little better.

They also are about an inch to 1.5" flatter out to 400 yards......

Which one would you guys use for coyotes???

I've killed quite a few with the 50s, with only two that have had fur damage.

Keep in mind this is a calling gun....shots would never be over 350 yards most likely!

DISCUSS!

If 350's your limit, I guess I wouldn't sweat it either way.

I used to be in the smaller bullet/more velocity camp via 22 Dasher and 40 BT's at 4200. Now days, I'm into the bigger bullet/better BC camp for the better long range potential. With a good range finder, dialing and clicking is a piece of cake, but the wind is still the bitch to deal with.

I want to be ready for the noisy varmint that sits on it's azz at 600 yards barking up a storm warning.........

Haha, yeah I'm in the same boat. I like the idea of being able to shoot long range, but I have another gun all setup for that!

I'm still up in the air, but I may switch to 40s.....get that "point blank" aim out as far as I can.

However, I'll be wishing I had the other gun if one sits down at 6 and barks lol!

Me too. It was a nice .220 Swift I once owned (about fifty years ago) that put me in the smaller bullet/more velocity club but I've since made the adjustment to the bigger bullet/better BC philosophy.
So I'd say "ditto" for alf's suggestion and have fun with it.

I'd pull the trigger on whichever you have in the chamber at the time the cross-hairs are where you want 'em. They both sound like winning numbers! Good hunting!

1+ ALF...had a 220 swift 55 grainers was fun out to 300yds ish..now shoot a 6.5 x 47 L as per Eric C... with the 123 amax..love it so much I,m building another from my rem 788 in 308..Danny B

A lot will depend on your barrel twist. The Berger 55 gr works in my 8-twist barrel and I will be trying some 60 grain Black Hole bullets before January is done.
