Which Bullet for 8.5 Twist 6.5x47L

Anyone know which weight bullet would be best for a 8.5 twist in 6.5x47Lapua chamber? Having one built and need to know which bullet to have it chambered for.

A 8.5 twist will make a 140-142gr bullet fly no prob. But since your shooting the 6.5x47, I'd prob go for the 130gr range. A good balance of bullet weight & BC for the cartridge.

FWIW: I run 141gr bullets in my 8.5 twisted 6.5/06.

I have an 8 twist and I'm having good results with 95gr v-max, 120 sierra pro hunters and 130 berger hunting using H4350 and varget.

I have an 8 twist and don't seem to get the velocity that I do with the 8.5 twist. In answer to your question any of the 130 class bullets will serve you well, but I shoot the 130 JLK's over all others. You will burn up a lot of components before you find a bullet that is more consistent shot to shot than the JLK, and that goes for there entire line. Now, your particular rifle/chamber/freebore combination might not like it, but my money is on the JLK's. As Nodak7mm said, 130's are a good blend of speed and wind bucking abilities. Another shooter I know shoots the 140 class bullets and he really struggles to keep up at 1K if the winds are switchy. In my opinion, there just isn't enough boiler room to take full advantage of the heavier bullet.
I hope this helps,
Lloyd

I know they arent brought up much but I have had some great results with the 140gr A-maxs from my 1-8" 260AI.

Shooting some 123gr from a 6.5x47 could be great. I couldnt tell you if the results would be reliable enough to have a barrel chambered for them though.

120 smk's and 123 Scenars work for me!

Dennis, Would you mind sharing the barrel specs? BTW really nice groups. Is the second group 5 shots in one hole or 5 including the flyer?

Forget the one marked with an X

All groups were 4 shots on the white target.

Yhe missing shot on 36.6 was my fault! Light trigger! That's the X

The 120 group was 5 shots, by far the best and most accurate in my gun at any time!

The bottom 123 groups were 4 shots only.

Here's what mine will do from 600 yds. I called the two at upper left. It has shot me 5 shot groups from 1300 yds. that I could cover with the back of my closed fist! Several groups that way as a matter of fact!
