Which brass should I use?

Hey guys,
I just built a new 6 creedmoor. I broke it in this weekend and it’s shooting fairly well it’s on a 700 sa 1:8 26” Krieger. Using new Lapua brass 105 hunting VLD’s br-4 primers, H 4350 and RL-16 both powders are grouping pretty good also tried 450s 400s 205m primers my problem is inconsistent es and sd would I be ahead to try some lrp brass and if so what brand? I won’t use Hornaday but I think Peterson, Alpha and Starline make lrp brass which one should I go with,.... I want the best I’m not on a budget. Thanks in advance for your input and knowledge.

I would think SRP brass would give you the best results.

Dub,
I would tent to agree it’s why I went with Lapua. I’ll get single digits numbers try the same load again and 27/13???....I’m using the old gold standard oehler p35 but we’re socked in with heavy smoke from the Oregon/California fires so maybe I’m just not getting accurate numbers?

not sure if the smoke and haze is affecting it. I would not stress over it too much until conditions for testing improve (since you are getting good results on the target)

I still firmly believe that the 6.5x47 is on the edge of too big for small primers, and that the Creedmoor is over the line. Just my feelings, and I shoot in the cold so there is actual evidence to back it up down there.

I'm very pleased with my Peterson 6.5x47 brass. It measures better than any Lapua brass I've had in the past. I will buy Peterson whenever it is available from here on out and skip Lapua.

interesting. I know my numbers improved with Palma brass in my 308.

I built this rifle for a up coming antelope hunt it’s not a br rifle but it does have a sendero contour and I’ll probably stretch it’s legs on some steel at extended ranges so I’ll need to get the es down and consistent. I did do quite a bit of research before I decided what to build and I did read I think on this forum what you just said Evan but the census was about 50/50 my br rifles I only use Lapua so that’s what I got for this build I have heard good things about the three other brass makes I posted but not sure which is the best I’m kinda leaning towards Peterson but since I have no experience with any of the for mentioned brass I’m looking to hear your guys thoughts on it

Would you sell me that reamer wayne? I have one on order but its a little more custom than some want. Need options and folks want it

Dear bozo699

I bought a used Stevens 200 in .243 with a Tasco scope, if I don't like the group size at 100 yards I move to 50 yards to get smaller groups.

I form Lake City .7.62 brass to .243 to save money, so remember cheap bastards have more fun. ;)

I do put magnum primers in the cattle feed and it works very well. This helps to burn off the methane gas flatulence and helps prevent global warming. ;)

Budget or no, one might consider that right now everyone and their dog is hoarding SRP's, convinced that it's the only primer that'll shoot the much coveted 1000 yd. I see LRP's frequently available, even sitting on the shelf at Bass pro and Cabela's, but SRP's are as rare as hen's teeth.

Maybe some of the guys who have a million SRP's sitting on their reloading shelves would be willing to part with a few. One can only hope.

Brass quality is dependent on the lots. Great ones and good ones can be seen from all the quality manufactures. My opinion is that sometimes we receive a less than perfect lot and spend too much effort letting the world know.

My advice. Try some different brass when time and circumstances permit. Buy 100, that is not a life long commitment. Buy more if you like them and they shoot well.

I am still shooting Lrp in my creedmoor and would recommend them in a hunting rifle and when cooler Temps are possible.

Texas 10,
I have thousands of srps but I understand there hard to get. I went through that from 09 to about 15 and never forgot so I keep plenty of stock in powder bullets and primers.

I have been pleased with the LRP Starline in a couple of 6.5 CM built on Saami reamers. I am using Peterson LRP to start load work-up on a 6.5 CM chambered with a custom reamer. Due to no available SRPs, I did not try the Lapua.

On 400 Starline brass of same lot, 386 weight sorted under 2 grs.

One more SRP "ROCK" . I ran Peterson SP .308 Brass in my Palma Rifle. Never shot Better, Won a Reginal and 20 at 1000 yards 443-27 Reginal 197-10 at 1000.
I say again they work.

I second the vote on Starline brass. Been using the same 300 for over 3 years now shooting 6.5 and 6mm Creedmoor. This brass has been reloaded several times without any real issues. I say about 6 to 10 cases I needed to throw out due to neck splitting.

Still have 200 more under the bench brand new.

Look into atlas development group. I have 150 pieces for my 6mm creedmoor. Once all my 6.5 creedmoor primer pockets blow out i will get adg brass to replace the hornady stuff i have. I have had good luck with the atlas brass and its good prices.

Peterson, cci 450, rl 16 . 115 Berger vld . Easy.
Lonnie,
As usual you was right buddy!... had almost no light left shot a couple work up round to determine no pressure then fired two quick groups and it hammered!.... to late at night for a chronograph I’ll get that data tomorrow!.... Thanks buddy!.
