Which base for F class?

I am building an F TR rifle based an a Savage Target Action with a Siightron SIII 10 x 50 60mm scope. This scope has 50 MOA of adjustment. Should I use a 20 MOA rail or just stick with the flat rail?

+2 on the 20 MOA base. Look at Farrell Bases. I'm a big fan of their bases.

The Farrel's are well built bases, but they stand a little taller than I prefer. Seekins would be my choice along with their rings.

Great call on Seekins. Glenn's work is first class and he is a great guy to work with.

Find him at Seekins Precision - google it

I have two 12F Savages, one is currently a .22-250 set up for varminting with a 0 MOA base, the other set up for F-TR with a 20 MOA Farrell. They both have Sightron 10-50 scopes. The .308 is almost neutral at 800 yards with the 20 MOA rail and requires about another 10 MOA to zero at 1000. It is a nearly ideal setup.

It would still work for mid-range; ~20 MOA down from neutral will zero at 600.

I have a 20MOA base on both of my rifles and +1 on what others have said for 600 and 1000 yards. However, I have one scope with 60 MOA of vertical adjustment and it is still 2 MOA high at 300 and forget 100. You might consider a second 0 MOA scope base of you spend a lot of time shooting at those shorter distances. I have a tactical reticle on that scope so I just hold on the hash marks (that is if I remember!) when I shoot the shorter distances.

Generally, I would agree... other than by the time you get a scope with a huge front bell mounted up top, you either end up with a tall scope base and medium rings or a regular scope base and high rings... it's kind of a moot point, IMO.

I guess I have been fortunate to get 50mm bells just a hair off my barrels. The Farrels just were too tall for all the rings that I tried to keep this gap as small as possible. Seekins work fantastic for me as did Badger, but the Seekins are less money. Nothing wrong with Farrels as I still have a few on rifles. I just have found bases that I have found to work better for me and my cheek weld.

I wouldn't hesitate to look at NEAR MFG, Richard makes the nicest rails I've seen to date. I like Richards rails because they are insanely accurate and also because he's the only one I've been able to find that makes the rail out of HTSR Stainless steel, all others are regular steel or aluminum, I like having the rail match the action perfectly. I run a few of his 25 MOA rails on my Savages, also run his killer 5 lug rail on my TRG-42.
