Which annealer?

Looking to buy an annealer soon and would like some reviews from some of the annealer users on this forum on which annealer are better or best. Some of my cases after being fired about 10 times and some cases have a softer feel and some are a harder feel when seating a bullet. Will annealing make the seating more consistent and a consistent feel with all the brass in the batch? Does it tighten groups and make neck tension more consistent?

Yes, yes, and yes. Benchsource Vertex annealing machine is top notch and very user friendly with its unversal cartridge wheel. I've annealed 22 Hornet to 375 Ruger and everything in between all with the same wheel. No extra parts to buy

+1 for the Benchsource, especially if you set it up to use two torch heads and a 20-lb tank.

WHY do you say that? I've been long time been curious why TWO torch heads are better than one where the turning speed is slowed to adjust to the heating process; which admittedly slows the overall time to do a large number of casings, which I never do as I'm a low volume annealer/shooter.

Alex, I'm also a low volume annealer and I just like the two head setup because I can aim one at the neck top and one at the neck/shoulder junction; the twin hoses connected to a 20-lb tank are a LOT easier to set up than trying to screw those little bottles onto one or two heads, and I have a much larger reservoir to maintain flame consistency. The time it takes me to bring the tank in from the patio, hook it up, set the flames, and anneal 100 6BR cases is about 20 minutes.

YMMV of course.

This is exactly correct. The problem with the torches is even though you do not use the fine tip of the flame, the flame is still relatively small compared to the case and as such, the heat is focus in whatever area you point it at. Having the case rotate helps but pointing one at the neck and one at the shoulder helps to spread the heat out which you cannot do using one torch.

jlow,

I use the inner pencil tip for my setup. I moved the torch heads in and actually have the inner pencil flame touching my brass in two locations. For my 10.5 thousandths turned 6BR brass, the timer is set to about 3.2 seconds. I found that using the inner flame made it easier to set up and it was more consistent.

Like Ledd Slinger posted, I would answer yes to your questions. I anneal after every firing and the necks and shoulders stay consistent. With that said, annealing should be part of your testing and something you should prove/test yourself to see if there is any positive gain in accuracy. Your targets will answer your questions.

There are lots of reviews and opinions on this site. I think your purchase will depend on how deep your pockets are. Lots of very good products out there with some costing much more than others.

I have a Benchsource and like it very much and would buy another today if it had to be replaced.

Good shooting
