Which 6 BR chamber?

I'm planning to order a Savage prefit Shilen 1 in 14 twist barrel for shooting paper at mainly 100 yards with light flat base bullets. They have 6mm BR Norma, 6mm BR Rem, and 6mm BR Rem with .263 neck chambers listed. Would the Rem chamber be the one to go with since I read that chamber has a shorter free bore for light bullets? But will Lapua 6 BR brass work in a Rem chamber? Thanks!

The Remington chamber is a little tight at the back end for Lapua/Norma. Order what Rewinder said and decide if you want to turn necks or not. .272” or .273” is a nice No turn.

first you do not want a Reminton as mentioned above it won't work with Lapua brass. The other mistake is using a 14 twist with a 6Br. I would recommend a 10 twist so you can shoot bigger bullets where the Br is best at. You can't keep up to a PPC with light bullets, but with 80 to 90 grain it will better in the wind..... To big of a case for 68 gr but 80 is ok and will flat shoot with a .060 free bore.... jim

I am discussing new 6br build with my smith. he has .2176 reamer. My guess is the reamer should be ok for a no turn chamber. I am thinking .100 freebore. Does it sound right to you?

I'd definitely use the norma/lapua reamer. Neck diameter is up to you but I've gone to no turn stuff more than I ever though I would. Just can't shoot the difference, if there even is one. Third..you can use anywhere from zero up to about .100ish freebore with most 68 gr flatbases. Not an bunch in the neck up there, but enough. I'd do a 12 twist and you can shoot up the 80gr bullets with between .060 up to about .100 freebore lengths. As for using a short freebore to allow chasing the lands...I think it depends on what you're doing with this rifle. For br, the life of the bbl is likely too far gone when I have to start chasing the lands, to be competitive for br but for hunting or less critical disciplines, that logic does have some value. But heck, I don't chase the lands anymore with anything since going to tuners. If I'm chasing the lands and can't bring it back to tune with a tuner, the bbl is very likely done for my purposes anyway.

The 6mm BR REM is obsolete. Rem dropped it many years ago.. Get the 6mm BR Norma. Always some confusion. It's a slightly different case. I don't know if you can buy cases. Don't know if you can size Lapua 6mm BR cases to fit 6MMBR Rem chamber. You want close to zero freebore. Mine are 0.030" freebore because that's what the gunsmith had. It's OK
