Which 243 Winchester Brass

I hace a 243 AI that my Winchester brass is about wore out and was wondering what brand to replace it with. It is a non-turn neck in a heavy varmint gun. Lapua is high on my list but was wondering if some other brand seems just as consistent. Thanks. Tom

Tom,
I don't have any first hand experience with the 22-250 Lapua brass but if it is like any of the other Lapua bras I have used, 6br-6.5*284-.308-.300wm-and .338L , then I would have to say no to your question, if RWS made it then it would be questionable, jmho :)
Wayne.

Lapua is what I would go with. I haven't seen anything that can compare with Lapua's consistancy.

I've had a 243 (or 2 or 3) in my posession since 1973, I love the round dearly. In that time I've used a good number of different brands of brass at one time or another.

My picks are (in order of preferance) 1 Norma, 2 Winchester, 3 Lapua for varmint hunting or paper punching. If I was going to use it for deer or antelpe hunting where the round(s) are going to be extracted out and not worry about picking them up then Winchester would be my first pick. WD

I shoot a 243 WIN long range BR gun and have used Lapua. I recently tried 100 Remington cases and first load were great! Since then, not so good. In fact, I finally had the Lapua cases re-annealed after 16 loads. The Remington were acting really squirly after 6 loads so they got annealed too. Still the Lapua is the ones I use. I think I will use the Remingtons as "disposable" cases!

Have no experience with Lapua .243 brass so I can't speek inteligently about it. I have used Remington, wasn't crazy about it. Here as of late I have been using Federal .243 brass and it has been treating me decently. Max loads of H414 behind 70gr TNTs lit by WLR primers and I haven't had a primer pocket loosen up yet and only a couple of sticky bolt lifts. Been shooting in 85+ temps and no pressure problems what so ever. I'm working on the second loading of 100 pieces and it is working out nicely. Its been good brass from my experience!

Lapua 243 brass is great, but be aware that it is thicker than most brands: around .015+-.0005. That might impact your no-turn neck desire depending on your chamber.
