Where's all the .17 Winchester Super Magnum Ammo?

I have the rifle, now I can't find the ammo! >:(

The only ammo I can find is $40 on Gun Broker. Retail is $15ish. Best way to kill a new cartridge is not have ammo available assuming it shoots. I spoke with Winchester last week and they said they underestimated the demand. Now there's nothing in the stores for another two months!

I am in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Anyone know of a stash out there?

"They underestimated the demand". What a joke. Their entire marketing and supply chain departments need to be fired.

Agreed. The rifle I was so excited about is basically worthless. Needed it for coyote hunting in a suburb that specifies rimfire only (and shotgun). My thinking is that this would be better at 100 yards than the .22 mag. Wouldn't it be great to test out that theory!?

Not sure I can agree with that comment. IMHO, the REAL issue lies with the hoarders and BOZO's in Washington that started the entire "run on ammo" crap. The manufacturers don't deserve blame for the majority voting in a bunch of yoyos who said they'd provide "change" and "change" is what we all got. However, nobody ever promised it would be "change'" for the better. Reloaders and shooter definitely got the short end of that deal.

Anyone that didn't stock up on November 5, 2008 wasn't paying attention.

[/quote] IIRC Midway didn't start taking orders for ammo til late Jan, early Feb. for a "supposed" delivery date in March (mid).

Gotta love that 20-20 hindsight and especially for those who didn't buy their rifle(s) until after that fateful date and is perhaps new to shooting. Some justification in my book which includes the theory of "screw everybody else so long as I got mine." That's really nice....NOT!

I do not think it is hoarders causing the problem. There were just not that many rifles sold before the shortages appeared. Our local Cabellas never saw a box of 17WSM according to a clerk that I trust. I hope this gets cleared up because a 17wsm in a Ruger bolt would fit on my gunshelf.

Ya they should have done like the HM2 and made thousands of guns and millions of rounds of ammo, so they couldd dump them in a year or so if it does not take off!!! ::) There has been ammo at the local Scheels store and a few guns. If you are over a year behind on most all of the ammo you can produce, how big of a hurry would you be in to bang this stuff out. My .02 is that before the internet age you could design a new product, and by the time it hit the news stand, you could have product ready to ship. No everything gets leaked out and in a couple of days every potential gun owner wonders why they can't get their guns and ammo NOW. It is kind of obvious that their were problems they did not see coming. I still think the wait was well worth it for the HMR. It's not like I dont have any other guns to shoot, so says my wife. :(

Score! I found them at Cabela's today. They said they received a box of 10 (a case) and put them on the shelf this morning. I happened to call and got lucky. They put six boxes aside and picked them up today. 4 are still on the shelf as of 2:00 today. Probably should have grabbed them all, but six will last me a while until the supply chain catches up. A month between buying the rifle and getting the ammo.

I got notified by Midway that they had this in stock today at 4:42 this after noon. They were out at 5:45 when I had a chance to order. F them!

gunshow in Bismarck last Saturday. over 30 fifty round boxes and only one rifle that I saw. don't know if it is me or what but the only supplier of ammunition and the only supplier of rifles seem to be short on the distribution side. might just be me not seeing the bigger picture.

My local Gander Mountain had it two days ago. I was wistfully looking at it, then remembered that don't have anything to shoot it with and I didn't want to be called a hoarder again.

I have better luck with gander mountain online and ship to store with the 17WSM ammo and when I went to pick up my 10 boxes, they had 3 more on the shelf. I wonder what munireUSA's current stock level is? They were charging $40/box and no free shipping. Cabelas has some 25gr listed on the website with a 1 box per day limit, free ship to store, order 1 box every day and go pick them all up on the same day
