Where to learn F-T/R 600 & 1000 - West Coast & Phoenix

I live in Honolulu and would like to get started in shooting FTR. I have access to a 600 yard Marine Corp base range once a month.

What Range/Club would be best suited to travel to for practice and participate in Club matches. I am looking for reliable weather, easy access to a major airport, schedule that permits practice on Thursday & Friday before a weekend match. Also a recommendation for a private coach to help rapidly improve shooting skills.

I tried Folsom but the Club only has practice use of the range on Tuesday mornings.

I help run most of the practices and matches on the 600-1000-yard high-power range at Ben Avery.
Keep checking our calendar for practice and match dates and times. Pm me if you need more info.

BRRC has monthly 600 yd matches open to non members. 1000 yd matches most months. Fifty minutes from Burbank airport. Great range, friendly and helpful people. They use electronic targets.

Check the Coalinga Rifle Club website. We shoot the 3rd weekend of each month plus 7 weekends per year are State and Regional matches. Becoming a member is easy, expensive and provides access to the 1000 yard range on a first come first serve basis. Most use e targets, the club will provide a frame to mount your etarget system.
If you need further information, please email coalingarifleclub@gmail.com.

Unless I am reading the calendar wrong the Club only shoots a match on Saturday and appears to be closed for practice during the week. I can’t justify the expense of flying in for just one day of shooting.

Another two hours east puts you in Houston. Bayou Rifles has a great Long Range course with matches on Sunday. You can practice most other days as a member. I mean, heck....if you are willing to all the way from Honolulu....another two hours 'ain't no thang".

Not good. Only one airline has a non stop flight and it is twice the price and a red eye. No thanks.

The Folsom club matches are pretty laid back, a lot of us use them as testing and practice. The club does allow RV camping too (no-hookups). During the summer months the 600 yards matches generally get moved back to 1000y to be under the cover. Weather is reliable around 8-9 months a year. Early season matches often get fog delay in the mornings. We shoot on target pits, but if you have an extremely target you can use it.

You could try Denver and Colorado Rifle Club.
Schedule is on the web site. The range you're interested in is the High Power Range. If a match isn't scheduled on a day you want, the range is open for practice.
