Where to get Threaded Rod for Mauser Guard Screws?

I would like to get some threaded rod or say 4” long bolts in the size used for Mauser (98 95 etc) guard screws . Gonna use this for bedding— Its my understanding these are 1/4-22 whitworth. Is this correct? My thread pitch gauge doesn’t have 22 tip on it. Anyone know where I can buy this? Thanks

I think those are the ones I want. Thanks Jim

What ever you get, make sure you check them (to the action) with a good T-square when snug BEFORE doing any work with them.

I have had screws tighten off center as the threads in the action were loose.

In this case I have used locktite to "glue" the bedding screws in place, perpendicular to the action, before proceeding. A little heat and they release.

You probably aren't inletting bottom metal, but I thought I would mention it anyway. I have made my inlet screws with a slight shoulder that helps in most instances.

Ok that’s good info. I have seen the bedding screws pretty crooked on the action. Thanks

An interesting point about the pitch Mauser used - it's able to be cut on either only imperial or only metric lathes. Smart man, that Peter Paul Mauser.

That’s interesting- I’ll look and see if it’s listed on my gearbox- thanks

Drill it out, tap it bigger, install a 1/4-28 adapter kit in there and keep on moving
That thought did cross my mind- I bet if you run a 1/4-20 tap in there it would clean up the threads to that. Not gonna do it though. Thanks
