need a rail if you are going to shoot prone.. your set up is fine for bench.. but not all ppl shoot from the bench.. just sayinThere are a lot of rails available, 0 MOA and canted.
At the same time, it can be noted that a rail isn't necessary to mount your scope for shooting up to 100 yards. Well-fitting dovetails will not cause scope movement issues. The recoil of a .22LR is much less than that of a springer air rifle.

i have one of these.. they are excellentHey Ken,
I'd recommend the factory Anschutz scope rail. It's very well made and always holds zero after being taken on and off. Looks like Champion Choice has them in stock right now: http://champchoice.com/store/Main.aspx?p=ItemDetailOptions&item=001061
I've attached a pic of the rail as installed on my 54.30.
Hope this helps and hope that you're hangin' in there.

Why is a rail necessary for prone?need a rail if you are going to shoot prone.. your set up is fine for bench.. but not all ppl shoot from the bench.. just sayin
Thanks that makes perfect senseWhen shooting with a sling in prone, you have to get the scope way far forward for proper eye relief.

Glenn,Why is a rail necessary for prone?
scope generally has to be further forward to get proper eye relief and keep from being pushed back cuz it is too close to you if used in the position it is mounted in for bench shooting. Why is a rail necessary for prone?
Try it thru the irons.....not as hard as you think....Thanks for the answers. For someone who's never shot prone, I appreciate the explanation.
It's a good point about the 54.30 differing in loading port location from other 54 single shot match actions. They must use different rails.Note: the 54.30 has the loading Port located about 30mm to the rear when compared to the older 54 Match actions.
Also the the 54.30 is not drilled and taped for a rail.
