Where To Buy T-Nuts That Fit The Bottom Forend Rail Of A Savage 12-FT/R ??

I ordered some from Amazon that I thought would fit, but they don't. Is there a name for this type of rail? For the price I would think that Savage would include a few with the rifle. They seem to make several different type that look to fit, but many don't. Can anyone recommend some that they know for sure will fit? Thanks in advance.

Possibly McMaster Carr - They sell just about any kind of hardware that is marketed.

Bill, Might try you local Tue Value hardware store. Mine carries a good variety of odd nuts and bolts, etc. I would also call Brownells.

Look for “weld nuts”. They are flat and oblong.
Measure, you may have to file them a bit.

no one really makes them. there is nothing that will work without some work. What are you trying to mount? Normally they are cut to fit for the part like a handstop or rifle rest plate. The anschutz rail is metric and finding a metric t nut to fit is not possible either and I am assuming they used the anschutz size rail and not the freeland.

Harris Bipods sell bipod adapters to fit the Anschutz sized rail, which is what the Savage FT/R stock has on it. It is a T nut threaded for a sling swivel to which you attach a bipod. Otherwise such nuts normally come with a specific accessory such as a handstop, palm rest or front BR adapter plate.

I got a couple from whidden when making a bullet order. I don’t know if it’s some they normally sell separately but the make a benchrest adapter plate that uses the t nuts

Savage supplied some Mod 10's in the past with a very good adaptor for the rail ( I have one somewhere...)
I wonder whether they still have some?

Choate also has their own "style", here are the dimensions of the adapter. BTW, on this rail, a closet (toilet) bolt works perfectly.

I've crafted my own by using toilet bowl t-nuts and a file to custom fit them to the rail. If I remember correctly they are 1/4-20 threads.

I have made T-bolts for fastening "adapters" to accessory rails by reshaping carriage bolts on a belt grinder. Seems that with a bit of ingenuity one could drill and tape the center of a carriage bolt after you ground it to fit, then cut the threaded bolt portion off and you would have an appropriately sized T-nut. Not owning a mill, I've also made them using a milling attachment on my lathe from a piece of flat stock.

Even if T-nuts are a little narrow they will still work as they "twist" when tightened. You can actually buy them this way for milling machines so you dont have to drop them in a slot at the end of the table.
