What is this gage for? I have never heard of it.

It is a cartridge headspace gauge similar to the RCBS Precision Mic

I prefer the Hornady Cartridge Case Headspace gauge, it can be calibrated to read actual headspace readings.

Below, the headspace gauge in the Hornady gauge reading actual headspace. ;)

Thanks that's what I was looking for. I use the hornady tool allot and works well on the bigger cases. I have had a hard time getting a repeatable measurement on the 223. I borrowed a friends MOES gauge and need to buy one now. Lol Matt

Below is a .223/5.56 case fired in my AR15, again the gauge is reading actual cartridge headspace and is no longer a "comparator" gauge.

Below the same case with .003 shoulder bump.

Below, a new unfired Federal M193 5.56 cartridge, .002 smaller than the GO gauge.

I'm right handed and the only problem I have with the Hornady gauge is holding it in my left hand and taking these photos with my right hand and not dropping anything. ;)

And with chronologically gifted eyesight the digital display is big enough that braille vernier calipers are not needed. :P

"AND" with the Hornady gauge you do not need to buy separate gauges for each caliber. ;)

Thanks Big Ed!

When I first put the Colt Field gauge in the Hornady gauge it read minus .011 of actual headspace. By placing a .011 feeler gauge between the red and silver body halves and locking the set screw the Hornady gauge then read actual headspace.

My RCBS precision Mic reads minus .003 from actual headspace and can "NOT" be calibrated.
