In theory this makes sense, but why would you waste barrel life shooting substandard ammo?

I'll agree with this. Using Hornady 140 Amax factory ammo, I had better velocity with no pressure signs than I could work up with my own handloads and met my reloads in accuracy. I havent priced it recently, but when I ran the numbers 2 years ago, buying factory ammo as a source of brass was the same or less cost than reloading new brass.
If you're going to run Berger Hybrids or VLD's, then it might not make sense to shoot factory ammo but the Amax worked fine for me just shooting steel.
