I'm looking for 210 gr/220 gr jacketed soft point bullets to start reloading for my 41 rem. mag. and I find no manufacturers available in my searches on the internet.
All the jacketed bullets on the market are hollow points, not soft points:
Sierra 170 gr JHC, 210 gr JHC hollow points
Hornady 210 gr XTP hollow point
Speer 210 gr DeepCurl hollow point
Nosler 210 gr JHP hollow point
Barnes XPB hollow point
I seem to be left with only Berry's 210 gr plated flat point as my "go to" non-hollow point bullet.
I also see that mfr's are offering 0.429 cal jacketed bullets with softpoints, but none in 0.410 cal, hmmm.
I have a S&W Model 57 I bought in the 80's and with a 8 3/8" barrel was really accurate with factory jacketed soft point ammo but this gun did not like factory lead wad cutters. I'm sure that someone will ask "why not hollow points?" I don't want to use a hollow point as I prefer to get the additional penetration. I basically dislike hollow points for anything. I shot a pig multiple times with 45 ACP hollow points and it didn't even get through the fat layer of the chest due to the massive expansion on contact. And yes, I also have a box of Grizzly lead 265 grainers that I carry in the M57 when I'm out "in grizzly bear woods" here in North Idaho to keep a bear from eating me, but that is not what I'm talking about in this thread.
I shot a mule deer in the 1980's with a 41 mag 210 grain softpoint so I know that they are great performers on big game. My question is what happened to all the 41 mag softpoint bullets that were so prevalent in the 80's and 90's? Am I missing a source of jacketed soft point 41 cal bullets?
