when to remove spent primer

Howdy folks,
does it matter if you remove the spent primer before or after vibe bowl cleaning?

I have been removing it, then tumbling, then sizing. Picking the media out of the flash hole is becoming bothersome.

I leave mine in while cleaning for that reason....should you load one with a piece in the flash hole, you usually dont get a BANG. Trust me, I know.

Then, if you want to clean your primer pockets, you can. For XTC use, I dont notice any real difference, though I do clean them when they get filled with junk so the primers seat cleanly and flush.

I remove first then ultrasonic - they get clean in the ultrasonic and I have no need to separately clean them after. I gave up tumbling about a year ago.

mudcat,
how do you get the sizing wax, lube) off when you fl size and decap? wipe it? thats my main reason for tumbling.
i hate the media in the primer pocket too,i have a digital meter probe that after tumbling,i poke the hole and clean the pocket.
ultra sonic does seem to be the way!

I always trim to length then resize my brass and clean primer pocket then tumble it,,, u have to dump the media out anyway so it's not that hard to look through the flashhole to make sure it's clear,, what ever u do always use same process in reloading it leaves less chance for an error.

I de-prime, clean pockets, wipe carbon off the necks & run a brush through before vibratory cleaning.
This way, I don't mung up my expensive dies with carbon when sizing later.

After FL sizing/bumping, I clean the brass again to remove sizing lube,RCBS).

I have done both methods. I do not believe that removing the primers first really got the primer pocket any cleaner then when it went in to the tumbler. I did however spend the time paper clipping out the media. I clean em first to protect the dies, lube em with the Dillon lube works great, size and de-prime, then I wipe them all down to remove the lube with a paper towel or wiper while I clean the pocket and look them over for faults. Not too bad, I usually do 100 cases at a time.
