Whelen questions

not 3000 fps but mine is a Winchester M70 Super Grade and shoots 300 gr Barnes into a group less than an inch @100 yards
it's not hard to find a good 200 gr bullet to do your chore you have in mind at the same time keep up with a 30-06 180 gr bullet

Thats what the Hammer absolutes do. They have the same effect as lengthening the free bore.
That was what R. Weatherby did in the late 40's with his long freebores.
PO Ackley said that for a given case.
, Weatherbys required more power to reach the same velocity.
I have loaded the Hammers and they have a profile similar to the old Herter Wasp waist bullets.
They are not easy to load since the case mouth cannot be aligned anywhere on the bullet shank but only at rhe bearing surface points. IMO any small velocity is offset by this limitation.

The .35 Whelen was never intended to be a magnum........let the magnums be magnums. If you wanted a magnum, you should have bought/built a magnum.
I have a .35 Whelen and I love it for what it is and was intended to be.....250gn at 2500fps does all I want it to do. I don't think it was ever intended to be a 300yd cartridge. The reason I have mine is because of Elmer Keith's writings about it.
