What's the Most Explosive Bullet For Prairie Dogs?

I'm shooting a .222 and am wondering what bullet has the best exploding effect on p-dogs (with .222 velocities)? 40 gr Blitzkings shoot extremely well , but so do Hornady 50 gr SPSX's. Any thoughts on those? Is there another bullet that I'm missing that consistanly produces nice effects. Oh yeah, Nosler B-tips don't shoot well in my gun.

50 gr. Blitzkings are very accurate and explosive out of my .223, better than Speer TNTs

The old soft point bullets are still king in my book, when shots are inside 300 yds.. Hornady flat base super explosive and the 50 gr Sierra Varminter are still very good choices if you want carnage. I get mega holes in crows with these frangible…. I like to use a slightly heaver bullet though 50 and even better 55 gr if your twist rate will handle them. Your 222, should still fire a 50 gr @ 3350/3400 fps with 25.5/26 grs of 4320.

I've seen my buddy pull some pretty good shots with the callhoon slugs outta his 223 and they blow a groundhog into two pieces so id guess they blow up a p-dog pretty well.

Try Hornady 50gr V-Max. They really do a number on PDs. That's all I ever shoot. Take a milk gug of water and set it out at 100' and shoot it. Try different bullets. You can see the difference.

I've shot almost all of them, I prefer the Vmax's for splatter effect.

40 grain v-max.... they make p-dogs do cartwheels or turn into a pelt with no innerds.... won't go thru a coyote with a 220 swift .......

For Prarie Dogs its a tie between the 40 grain V-maxes and the 50 Sierra Blitzking. The Sierra shoots a lot better for me though so I use it. The difference between the two is indicipherable though.

Barnes Varmint Grenades in 36 grain weight for your .222 will get it done. In my experience you have to do a little load tuning to get them to shoot good (my 22-250) but the .222 should not need as much tuning. Would be a great match on PD's. In newest Barnes manual, you can get them running bout 3550 to 3600 fps.

While many love a Vmax, I have had great luck with other bullets as well. The Nosler BT , Berger Varmint bullets and the Sierrra's.
