WHATS the main thing about the quick Load thing

I have heard of this thing, but am Not sure what it is all about.

Why isn't a reloading book just as good to use?

Anyone tell me a good 22 -250 load for 55 gr v max with
a 1 in 12 twist then.....I have yet to see a quick load in
operation...Are they really worth the 1000 dollars? John

Sadly, QL is a tool that takes some time to learn how to make the most out of. In order to give a good load for a particular rifle, there are a number of parameters that have to be determined. Even with all of the parameters measured, the rifle has to be shot over a chronograph to determine what the powder is really doing in the barrel.

Once all of that is done, a load estimate can be built up. In essence, the program helps determine the approximate velocity that should be loaded for with a given powder.

Now, the finding the perfect load stuff is all theoretical. The real use for QL is to get a better idea of the consequences of changes to various components in a load. For example, it can give you an estimate of what happens when you switch from a 55 grain V-max to a 55 grain ballistic tip. It can also help you to determine which powders are likely to work well with your chosen bullet.

More than anything, I use it to help me work up loads for bullets that are new and there is no load data for them (just try finding load data for a 200 grain Berger hybrid in 308 much less the 215, 230, etc.)

It isn't really $1000 dollars unless you have to buy a computer to run it on.

Hope that helps,
Keith

I use my QL to determine powder volume and burn length in a barrel. I generally know what bullet I'm running so I look for the coolest burning powder that give me the best fill rate in the case as well as how far down it's burning in the barrel. In theory, cooler powders that burn farther down the tube should preserve throat life, and give a more gentle pressure curve. I’ve noticed that powders that spike quickly seem to give larger extreme spreads.
This just my .02 cents worth, I hope it helps,
Lloyd

It is an amazing research tool as well. I use it for deciding what length I can shorten a new barrel too and still get the velocity that I require for the given cartridge and rifle. I also use it for comparing cartridges as it is very easy to compare things on a computer than in a book or manual as I can instantly switch back and forth between windows.

I suppose it is the way to go if you aint got no manuals..

I knew when that dude told me it cost a thou..that he was trying to
scamme or whatever....He was gonna pocket the money..
But I was on to him right off...

I may check into one of them load things later but not right now...

Everytime one of us use QL to get a starting point, how much do you think you save? Mine has paid for it's self already.

Where do I look to find the burn temperature?
