Whats the difference

I am getting into varmint shooting and custom guns. I am in the process of getting my Rem 700 VLSS up to par and I am wanting to get started on another. Mainly research so I don't waste money. I Love the 6mm and have been reading up on the 6br. What is the difference. I am going to start getting parts together to build one so I want to learn all I can. Thanx guys.

trapper, if you mostly hunt predators the 6mm would work fine. but if you shoot a lot of prarie dogs the 6br would be better as the barrel will last a lot longer on a 6br than on a 6mm rem. the 6br is easier to load accuracy wise also.regards, treeman

If your going to be shooting lots of Pdogs and Squirrels, I would highly recommend the 6BR. When it comes to accuracy, the 6BR will easily out shoot the 6mm Remington.

How do you get 6br ammo. I am assuming you have to load yourself, any links on this. I am brand new to this so be patient with me

If you were to make your own brass. How would yo do it. And is 6mm Norma BR the same thing. I found some on Midways site also.

6mmBR Norma is the correct case for the 6br... and Lapua brass is the best of it all for money well spent.
The 6br will come so close to what the 6mm Remington will do it's a waste of powder to even try...
About the only difference is, one is short and fat the other is tall and skinny, but the short fat one will win every time....

HI Trapper...you are on the rite track...get all the 6mmBR Norma brass that you think you will ever need ...,and then get 500 more)....get the varimint bullet you like, lots of them too000)and OBTW make shure your bbl is 8 twist...that way you can shoot everything from 60 gr to 108 and use the rifle for target and varmint and even deer size game .....there are lots-0-powders and primers that work....get what you can find and afford...Bruno has the bbls in stock,usually)....and get your gunsmith up to speed...make shure he has the reamer and is ready to go.....warm weather will be here before U know it and you will have the gun to shoot...Roger

Talked to a gunsmith close to home. He said he has the 6br reamer and a 6mm Dasher. Which one is better, or is it just personal preference. He also said he had 4 700 actions trued up and he is bead blasting them and rebluing them, I told him I might be interested in one. And he also stated he uses hart barrels. He sounds like a guy who knows what he is talking about.

Trapper,

I know you and I have talked before, but I promise that you are on the right track. I am building my first 6br right now, thank you PREACHER!!!!) and I am very excited. But let me warn you... this is very addictive, and very expensive,if you’re a normal working guy like me).

1 hint... unless you already have a 700 trued action... buy a custom action instead. I didn't. it's like this.... a Remmy action is a Remmy action... truing it is like tossing a $600 boat motor on a $1000 boat... you still have a $1000 boat, and it's now only worth $1200 with your $600 motor. Depending on what you pay for it, it might be better to toss a few hundred more into a custom action. When/if you have to sell, you get most of your money back on it. And it works so much smoother, and of course it looks so much cooler. I wished someone would have told me that before I sent 2 700 actions out to be trued.

Trapper, the Dasher's a variant of the 6BR. Same case, different chamber dimensions & more powder behind the same bullets.

Dasher's more adept for shooting out to 1000 yards under typical competitive conditions; a 6BR barrel will probably outlast one chambered in 6mmDasher. Both are exceptionally accurate but you won't find factory 6Dasher ammo anywhere in this life.

How much is a trued 700 worth. I just ask before I say. These will be trued, bead blasted and refinished for pretty much a brand new trued action. I am not committing to one just checking all avenues. I have been thinking surgeon action, hart barrel in 6br. That is as faras I got so far.

Trapper,

I went the 700 route with my first custom F-class rifle because I had a Short action sitting in the gun safe not being used. I have since sold the rifle to fund a Night Force 12-42 BR scope, worth every friggin penny I might add).

When I look back on it now, the money I spent having it trued and the firing pin bushed, this is wholly necessary with a 6mm BR) I could have easily payed for a custom action ! Then I had too spend another $200 for a Jewel trigger. When I sold the rifle I got ROBBED ! I got back less than 50% of the money I put into it. Lesson learned....

I now have a Barnard Action that was only $995 and came with a top notch trigger that I personally like better than the jewel. This action is very popular in Palma and F-class rifles. If you want look up this action you can go to www.MTguns.com I believe they are a sponsor of this site. Mac Tilton is a very knowledgable and pleasant man to do business with I highly reccomend him and his products.

I can get theses actions for 300 with a triger tuned to what I want as long as it isn't lower than 1 1/2 lbs. Is it worth it. I am not competing in anything except for maybe bragging rights around here.
