Whats it worth?????

My neighbor just came over and asked if i wanted to buy a rifle he inherited from his dad, its a rem. 40x in .308 date of manufacture 1973 has the clip slot and 27 1/4" hart barrel 100% original. The finish is 99.8%.
what do you guys think he is asking $1000 for it.

According to my book, it isn't original if it has a Hart barrel.

My guess is that he is looking at one of the Remington roll marks on the chamber end of the bbl. It is a heart!

Many of those 40X rifles had that stamp on them. After reading about Mike Walker's relationship with Clyde Hart, in the May issue of PS, I'm not so sure it wasn't a Hart.
