You could ask over at 24hr cmpfire Savage collector's forum and probably find out the exact date, who did the final inspection on it, and what he had for lunch that day.

Tang safety makes it after 1965, and the round counter window means it was before 1970, so that's your range.

Does it have a monte carlo stock? cut or pressed checkering?

no checkering, forward upper finger grooves on fore end.

ramp and dove tail brass bead at the frt, fold down adjustable elevation rear site

no jeweling on bolt.

i'm wondering if it has a mis-smatched stock..it seems too old to be a "brush gun" but the fore end sounds like it might be.

on one site, i was told that since it was a 'c' serial number it was to new to be concerned with...BS.
i'd like to know more, and they have thier noses in the air!
i have owned a 300 sav and a 308 win, but hey went away in tuff times.
now i am floating on clouds...never thought i'd find a 358 !

Oh sure, The brush guns with straight grip and lever did have the round counter window, mfg. 1977-80. Unlikely that the stocks are switched due to the straight lever being unique on modern 99's
