What would shoot noticeably better than my T1x?

I've been shooting my 16" T1x for about 18 months. I've swapped out the trigger spring, put it in a KRG Bravo stock, and it has an Athlon Midas Tac scope.

I don't hunt, and I shoot off a bench at 50 and 100 yards. At 50, if I shoot 5x5 shot groups, they'll generally average .45-.5". That's with Center-X. With SK Std+, they open up a touch.

I'm happy with the rifle, so it's not that. But I'm about to have some surgery that will keep me from shooting my centerfire rifles for awhile. So, when I can get back to shooting, I thought a new .22 might be fun.

So, what would I have to spend to get something that would shoot better than my Tikka? And this last 18 months is the totality of my rifle shooting experience. So I don't really know what a really nice rifle is capable of, or what I'm capable of, for that matter.

Your Tikka, along with the CZ 457 and Bergara are the best rifles in that price range. You can easily change out the barrel, trigger and stock on a CZ 457 to get it to the next level.

An upgraded CZ would be in the $1500 and up area. A Vudoo is about $2000 for the barreled action. A RimX is $1500 for the action. An Anshutz is $2000 and up. The Price jump to get a better rifle than your Tikka is pretty steep.

Personally I have an upgraded CZ with a Lilja barrel, upgraded trigger and Manners stock. About $1600 after picking up the stock used. $1200 after selling the takeoff barrel and stock.

Depends on what you want to spend vs accuracy expectation. Look at used rifles on Rimfire Central for Kidd semi-auto, Anschutz, customs, etc.

Using a moderate action like a PTG 40X for $700, you can go a step higher and have a nice custom built which is the route I took and couldn't be happier.

So I'd be looking at an Anschutz, Vudoo or Rim-X?

Would the Vudoo and Rim-X both drop in to a Rem 700 based chassis?

If you’re not thinking of new rifles only you can probably pick up a used Winchester Model 52B or 52C or Remington 37 that will shoot well from a bench, or a 52D or Model 40X if you’re OK with no magazine capacity. There also the Remington 540X and XR and some others. All of these would be less than a new Vudoo etc.

I mention this only because I stumbled on a not pretty 52B Heavy Barrel for $450 IMG_5973.jpegthat groups surprisingly well with me not knowing much about how to shoot it. SK-PMS, RWS-RM both averaged <0.35” CTC at 50 and CX <0.31” CTC at 50 on a pretty windy day. Heck, Tac-22 was less than a half inch CTC and CCI SV was close. Just a thought…

Plus side of the RimX is how easy it is to change barrels, you can also buy profits. Downside is you can only feed through the magazine, no si gle feed through the port.

Vudoos come as a barreled action from Vudoo. You're mostly stuck with what you have. Magazines are finicky as well.

Both of them are the best you can get.

from what I have seen if you want to step up go single feed, I have never seen a repeater that can hold with the single feed Vudoo or a 2500X, Turbo, 40X etc,. Not saying they are not out there but look at any unlimited bench rest competition and all you will see are single shot rifles

Why take a train when you can take a plane.? Vudoo single shot with a Benchmark, Shilen or Bartlein barrel or a used custom. Various used customs for sale here off and on at good prices

I went the single shot Vudoo route myself and do not regret it at all
This!!

You're going to be hard pressed to find a better factory rifle than the Tikka. I shot my 20" T1x for the first time yesterday and was easily shooting bug holes all day at 50yd and 100yd, in wind!

BowChamp has a long discussion that documents his shooting experience with his Vudoo V22s in the Vudoo section at Rimfire Central, with plenty of targets. It's impressive, to put it mildly. A Vudoo would be a great choice.

My Tikka T1X and my Bergara BMR accuracy can go back and forth on any given day. But mostly it's due to what ammo is being shot in them. My wife's new CZ457 American shows so much promise I'm taking it to the range today and shoot an ARA factory target with it.

@Ed D Thank you Sir!!

@WillEver and anyone else that might want to see what I've been doing with my Vudoo.
