What type of stock filler ?

I have an old fiberglass stock that looks like someone inletted with a dull chainsaw.
I want to fill in the gap in the barrel channel and a hole at the end of the action tang.

What should I use?

The stock at one time had a target barrel in it and I was going back to a sporter barrel.
I thought if I used JB to fill in the gap it would add a lot of weight.

You could use bondo I suppose as it is lighter.
I was going to say fiberglass body filler. I use it on stocks that will be painted. McMaster sells large diameter heat shrink tubing in different thicknesses. I've used .040 and .080 thick tubing for creating a nice even gap along the barrel channel on guns. It works nicely. The fiberglass works well too. It's light, cheap, strong and works fast and easy. I use a product called smc resin to assure a good bond to the old base material. It can be mixed with the fiberglass resin that I use and improves the bond to many synthetic materials. That's what it is made for. Of course, anything you use for these repairs will be pretty unsightly until painted. --Mike

Fiberglass = Poyester resin and methyl Ethel Ketone and catalyst.

West marine 404 or 403 Polyester fibers added for strength

Pigment added to make desired color.

Epoxy Resin and epoxy Hardener mixed 50/50

Well made stocks have fiberglass or carbon fiber for their external structural strength. The better stocks have fiberglass resin and polyester or carbon fiber in the action area of the stock. Basically from behind the pistol grip to just in front of the recoil lug. the other areas may be hollow or filled with bondo.
