WHAT TYPE OF PROPANE HEADS FOR BENCH SOURCE ANNEALER

Just purchased a Bench Source Annealer , is there one type of propane tourch head that works better with this machine , or is the standard one ok.
thx

The fixture blocks that lock in the torch tips will accept most if not all propane heads. It is basically up to you whether you want electronic ignition or lighting one by hand. I just bought a 2 pack off of eBay for 16.00 and they were electronic ignition models. Great deal for sure. Easier than sparking one up by hand like a welding torch.

Bernzomatic, the one they recommend, because that is what the torch clamps fit. If anything different fits, I do not know. Your choices are limited to the torch head diameter of the recommended torch, or others of that diameter, or modifying the clamps to fit other torches of other diameters.

Specifically Benzomatic torch part #UL2317. Other torches will work in a pinch, but what you will find is that specific one recommended will give you finer control when you set the flame tip length.

I think it is always to explore new options but at least reading through the thread in the link, it looks like it might be more even a flame but significantly hotter. Not sure hotter is necessarily better as I always like a reasonable annealing period as that allows the rotation mechanism build into the BenchSource to move the case around a few time to give an even anneal. I guess I will let the guinea pigs try it first...

Following that line of thinking... perhaps someone could try this for an alternative annealing torch.

You'd just need to chuck your case up in a dremmel tool to make sure you had enough RPM for an even anneal. :)

I annealed many but not with a cutting tip . A soft dove tail works great . Larry

The ones that Bench Source have and sell are the pencil flame Bernzomatic. Got mine from them when I ordered the unit.

I've got a set of the first improved ones from the SH post, then it was revised. I have a Giraud and not modifying it, lol

That pencil tip one works better than my old, warming ones. I hand-hold a socket in a small cordless drill and put that tiny center flame tip right on the end of the case neck for 10-12 seconds listening to a metronome app. on my iPhone. Works perfect.

Set that tip up right on your annealer and it should be fine.
