what to do with used barrels

I have a few 7-10 used BR barrels lying around. Some off of panda actions, rim rock action, and 1 thread for a rem 700. All still shoot good, but not good enough to compete with. Most are 6mmppc, a couple are 30br, and 1 6mmbr (remmington). Contours are LV and HV. I'm sure someone would have a use for these. They are just lying there in the way.

Is there a market for them? If so, what is a far price for these?

a guy that has an action they will fit should want them for prairie dogs and you can get 150 or so fairly. the ones that will have to be rechambered like for the remington should probably be given to an aspiring gunsmith for practice for shipping or a bit over.

I paid $125 for a lightly used 222 BR barrel about tenyears ago. If I had a spare unused action sitting, I would offer on the 6BR barrel.

Put em on the trade/sell here at $125-$150 by make and model, list rounds fired and they may sell. Keep in mind shipping is a make or break on these.

some gun smiths use those barrels for hunting rifles. they can turn the contour into smaller dimensions. They will chop about 6 inches from the current chamber and do a new crown. From what I hear, they make very good hunting guns.

well to me usually they are short(20 to22) and they need enough shank to rechamber. the ones ive encountered have been 6ppc and slow twist. ive bought a few for 50 plus shipping and have seen others offered for that. like has been said shipping can be 20 per barrel. if you can get more, more power to you.

those barrels are probably only 20-21" now. wont make much of a hunting barrel at 16"

I thought shorter barrels were stiffer, ergo better? So much for my 6-45 16" barreled squirrel gun.

There's a market for them, as mentioned above, but "I" have balked at the $100 or so some guys want for them. I was stung on a used barrel purchase and won't risk too much on one.

they are but you need a decent length for some velocity- the SR benchrest guys have determined the 20" to 22" best compromise and thats where alot of these used barrels come from. now if you can find some used 6 dasher barrels ect that were used in Fclass they could be 28 or so strait taper. they are the ones i look for

Just made a firing pin disassembly for a Remington 700 from an old '06 barrel. Works better than the barrel did.

yeah i wouldnt pay a gunsmith 200 to 300 to chamber a used barrel for me. if i couldnt chamber my own i wouldnt use them. even then i wouldnt pay 100.00 for one. id rather put that money toward a new barrel

I sent a used 6mmPPCbarrel to a guy in New York State many moons ago. He was to send me $60.00 when he got the barrel. I guess he never got the barrel. Based on this experience, I get the money first and don't trust everyone from New York State.

seperate issue but sounds like you got the right idea now. unfortuneately probably need to expand that to all states and everywhere else.

That's true Hoz because a guy from White Haven, PA got us for a neck turning lathe. I can only think of one guy from White Haven so my opinion is low there too. But that's the only two "dishonest people" I've dealt with.
