What to buy?

Okay so for my next rifle I want a long range rig to reach out to 1500yards. I am wanting more of a tactical/practical setup. I am thinking along the line of a 260 ai. Now the kicker. Should I go all custom with a bighorn tl3 or mausingfield with premium barrel mounted in a chassis or should I get a sako TRG and replace the 260 rem barrel when it burns out. Price wise I think they are about the same

Bighorn with chassis. You'll waste time and money with that factory barrel.
Would you buy a Camaro with the little engine, planning to install a V8 later?
I was in your spot 3 years ago. I bought the TRG in 300 Win mag. Got a custom a year later and the TRG sits in the safe.

A TRG is a spec'd rifle not a production rifle in my opinion. I like the three lug vs the mausingfield or bighorn dual lug. I also like the TRG and mausingfield extraction vs the bighorn. The new ultimatum action is nice but lacks the extractor capabilities of the TRG or sako.
As for the sako TRG cold hammer forged barrel they are probably on par with most aftermarket stainless steel barrels.

Sounds like you figured out a few of your thoughts in this post.

I would go with what setup gave me the best warm fuzzy feeling. That away if or when you want to upgrade or what ever you dont have a regret due to the fact it fit you personal needs and wants at the time.
But no matter what there is always a chance of what ever choise you make it might not fit the bill down the road.

Most manufactures use hammer forged barrels. If that were a reason I would much prefer an after market button or cut rifled barrel. I would rather have the 6.5X47L round. Several after market receivers are top notch.
The TRG is a decent rifle.

If you need more extraction than the Bighorn can handle, you're doing something wrong !!
