what stock?

Hey guys, I'm slowly getting all my parts in to build a 6br, one problem I'm having is what kind of stock. The receiver come from my Remmy .308 and has a detachable mag. Would this be a
BDL or a BDM. I don't want to do any inletting, and if I have to I don't mind making it a single action. I prefer wood but will settle for synthetic. Thanks again, SPM

Hey lynn, thanks for the reply. I'll be shooting prairie dogs and some paper out to 100 yrds. SPB

Absolutely go single shot, but forget the Davidson and Score High followers. Dave Kiff http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=344951 makes one that contours to the action nicely making for a better bedding job. As far as stocks go you need to figure out how you will be hunting the varmints. Will the gun be a walk-around varminter or shot exclusively off a rest? The best accuracy will be had by a benchrest style stock, flat forend) due to the tracking ability in the bags, but they aren't a good choice for carrying. For that you'll want the ability to attach a bipod. There are so many folks out there today making great stocks that it's tough to choose. To add to the previous list there is Robertson Composites for fiberglass and Richard's Custom Rifles for laminates.

Joel Russo who posts over on Precision Long Range Hunter, builds outstanding laminated wood stocks. He's got all sorts of options, and his prices are great.

You'll find his posts there. I think the series of posts about his stocks is something like 22 pages long now...

For synthetic, I've been very impressed for over 25 years with fiberglass stocks from McMillan. They are very good. I prefer either the A3 or the M40A1-3 stock myself.

This is the M40A1-3 on my .308 Win/Rem 700. Good all-around stock, not a benchrest stock. I've used it from standing, sitting, kneeling, prone, and from all sorts of improvised rests in the field.

Regards, Guy

thanks fellas, i ordered a dave kiff follower today and i will be searching for stocks now. SPM

IMHO there is no such thing as a drop-in stock. They all need to be properly bedded to insure a stress free environment for the action.

Well boy's, I ordered an A5 in laminate from Joel Russo today. I'm pretty impressed with the pics and the boy's at precision long range hunting seem to like the quality of his work. I get it in about 3 weeks and I'll let you know more about. Thanks for the replies. SPM
