What "RING DIE" for Reducing Base for .308

Looking to find out where ; or from who , to get a Ring Die to reduce the base diameter on my .308 Cases , before sizing , without disturbing the shoulder . The only operation I want to do first , is reduce the base back down to .469 - .4695 .. Cases are all Lapua with between 25 to 30 reloads , and primer pockets are still good . I check them with a Die Pin for every reload , and separate the ones going over-sized to use the Ginex primers for one or two more firings .

I have tried several different Small Base Dies & Full Body Dies un-successfully , due to the fact that every one of them over-bumps the shoulder anywhere from .004 to .010 , destroying accuracy.
Rifle is a Kelby Panda set up for TR.
Barrel is a Kreiger 30" - 5r
Manson 2013 F-TR Chamber , .185 Free Bore .
Lapua SRP Case
Re 7-1/2 Primer
N-150 powder at 43.4gr
Bullet : Berger 185gr Jugg Target

Case Base expansion is in correlation with rounds fired on Barrel , usually around 3,000 - 3,200 rounds . As long as the barrel maintains accuracy , I shoot it . But ; when I put a new barrel on , I have to "fix" the cases . Had been using a old .45 ACP Die that I re-worked , and it's about worn out . If it's get a new .45ACP Die , or a Ring Die of some type , "HELP" ! We all know they're aren't any Lapua SRP Cases floating around . The "Case Fairy" is hanging out on a beach somewhere .

Lee bulge buster and 45ACP carbide factory crimp die will size the entire base down without touching the shoulder. Helps to tighten the pockets somewhat too.

If you get the case farther into the die won’t it still push the shoulder back? Will you post a picture of Paul’s ring die? Thank you

I understand, I was commenting on trimming a shell holder. Would like to see what ring die looks like. I had my friendly smith cut the top off a .45 acp die so it looks like short cylinder that sizes the different caliber cases I shoot. I screw it into press with ram elevated till it touches shell holder, this helps with cases slightly out of sorts. I looked at “Lee bulge buster” but it worked for pistol but looked inconvenient for rifle cases. I have tried to find “Paul’s Ring Die” but can’t find where it’s sold. Thank you.

Sorry all just realized I need to click on “clickers”. Now I see a ring die. Very nice. Is this carbide or is it lubed each use? This looks easier to use than mine that is very short. Sometimes it takes a while fo me to get it. Thanks

How does one wear out a .45 cal carbide die?
The .45 ACP Die I've been using wasn't a Carbide Die , and it just worn with use of the years . Since I was a Tool-maker , I shortened the Base of it , to get down to correct diameter , and it has finally given up the ghost .

Thanks for posting that info . Very helpful . Lot of information in the other replies , also .

Just ordered a Ring Die ; and as they say , "The checks in the mail". Appreciate all the quick responses , and great info on this , Guys .

Case not going far enough into the die to size the base???
Correct shell holder, chucked upside in a drill or press, run down on a well oiled sharpening stone. Looks like a factory job!!
Measure before you start and quit when you get to where you want.
Mark the shell holder and set it aside for further "special" use. :)

This is how I tighten up the web on cases that have seen better days.

take a regular Redding body die, and using a small carbide boring bar, bore the shoulder completely out, leaving only the tapered body.

now You can use an arbor press to push a case flush, then use a rod and the arbor press to push it out.

This works better than anything I have tried.AC87C9AC-A895-4EA0-AE11-B505046D357A.jpeg119E185A-1011-4F30-BE3B-DD3A0A83A67F.jpeg
