what rifles use Glock 9mm mags?

This list will be much shorter if you list the ones that don’t take Glock mags. No offense. But the Glock mag is not the right magazine to feed a rifle. Angle, feed, it’s all wrong.

There is a new (2019) magazine adapter block by Stern Defense that fits easily (slides in like a magazine) into a standard AR15 lower. They offer a couple of models for either Glock magazines or S&W/Sig mags. My shooting partner uses this in his AR15 to convert over to run PCC competition. I have watched him shooting 5.56 and swap out his upper to a 9mm and drop the mag block in... 2 minutes later he is shooting an AR9. I am surprised by how easy it is to install and reliable.

If you don't want to buy a dedicated pistol lower or want a simple solution to building an AR9 on an AR15 lower then this is something worth considering.

I've been kicking around the idea of an AR9. Delta team tactical, though spotty customer service, has some good prices. Also the idea of a Ruger blackhawk in 9mm but thats another thread.

It works great. I have one that uses Glock mags.

I was disappointed in the AR9 platform. The ones I've seen use a blowback design which produces recoil as great as an AR firing .223. I was expecting it to be more like a .22 and learned I could not shoot it any quicker than I could shoot a standard AR in competition.

AR9's are direct blowback. The other options, which use some form of a rotary bolt system are the CZ Scorpion, HK MP9 or clone, or Chris Vector. Palmetto has a clone of the MP9 coming out perhaps summer of this year that was originally unveiled at Shotshow 2019 and re-introduced at Shotshow 2020.

I built my first AR9 over 10 years ago before it was the rage and everyone had a commercial offering. You had to sort out the issues and use some mojo to get it to work. I must have snapped +5 bolt catches in half before I found the right combination of buffer weights and buffer spring that could slow down the bolt's blowback without sling-shotting it forward so fast that it would either beat the bolt catch rising or simply snap it in half. Now, the easy answer simply to buy the JP Enterprise silent capture spring and bolt for AR9. It costs a pretty penny but smooths everything out.

My AR9 suppressed may be the fan favorite to shoot. It is as quiet as a suppressed 22.

Tuning of load, springs, and overall mass (BCG and Buffer) is required for best results. My AR9 SBR has far less recoil than any of my 223s and I can shoot it faster. Never going to be like a .22LR though.

The AR9's from New Frontier Armory, QuarterCircle and Palmetto are made by Gibbs, who are the guys that designed the side charging AR15 upper.

Now that the timing/cycling has been conquered for the AR9, the next challenge is getting Last Round Hold Open. There are very few that can do this, especially with a Glock Mag. This is a small feat that has been attempted by some indirect, extra contraptions (external wire), but not the standard method of the follower on an empty magazine pushing up the bolt catch like how it works on AR15.

The Glock mags add an additional level of complexity due to the position of the locking notch on the magazine. The result on dedicated AR9 Glock Lowers has a funky mag release lever/bar that goes across the entire width of the magazine well.

Besides being easy to install/uninstall, the big selling point on the Stern Defense Mag Adapter Block is... it performs LRHO using the standard Bolt Catch on your AR15! I have been sorely tempted to buy one for just this reason!!! I'm doing such a great job plugging their product that maybe they'll send me one to test for free... All kidding aside, clearly I was really impressed with the quality of manufacturing and fact that it really does deliver as they described...not marketing hype. This is the route I would go if I needed or wanted another fun toy.
