What Reamer for F-class .308

Or should this say whats the most common reamer for .308win? For tatical rigs fed from mags to single loading for F-class what Reamer would you use if you could only cut with one for the rest of your life. Like on the GA Precision gallery, the pic of the .38/.29 inch group shot out of a barrel with 5000 rounds. And How does one go about cutting to minimum SAAMI specs to make factory ammo accurate and still have a "must feed and extract to save my life" head space?

Wow 72 views and no replies....Ok let me explain...308 Bisley Match, .308 1995 Palma Match, .308 Win Match .338" Nk BR. Or some others I don't know of. Yeah any will work but if running 175s in a 1-11" twist out of a 22" barrel what will be the reamer of choice. Also as tooling is not cheap and I was to just have one on hand for all my .308 needs what would be the go to reamer? Agian just makeing conversation...as I can make up my own mind. Thanks -SCR

I used PTG .308 Win Match throated for 168/175 SMK on 3 different rifles with 3 different barrels and all three shoot very well. 1 rifle had a factory take barrel, 1 was with a Broughton and the other was a Rock all were 26" long. With the same load all shoot very close to one another. Just now starting to get serious about load development.

First thing on a 308 reamer is to stay away from the tight necks!

I have shot many thousands of rounds with Bisley and Palma 95 reamers, which there are many different versions. The PTG (fullbore 2011) reamer is my choice for the 308.
I have two rifles chambered with this reamer, accuracy is excellence. A couple of national records and several submitted using this reamer in F-T/R.

The new 155 grain bullets (Sierra 2156 and the Berger 155.5) will really out perform any of the 168/175 grain bullets.
IF you can get the MV with the short barrel the best bullet for a 308 is the Berger 185 grain LR BT.

Here's what I use for such all around applications.

If you need to use factory ammo, I would always keep the head space of the chamber closer to the "no go" gage than the "go" gage. I have seen too much factory ammo measure at or slightly over "go" and if you have a minimum chamber head space, that can make that ammo hard to chamber.

I use a 95 Palma throated out +.030 for the longer bullets. It takes the 155.5 - 210 bullets out of the donut and gives one the ability to use more powder if they have the capability to seat out that far and handle the pressure.

JM, I no longer shoot the Berger 185 BT bullets. Their QC is just too spotty and customer service is non existant. This is not a flame on them just my individual experience.

I am now shooting Jim Deitlein's excellent 185 gr rebated BT bullets. He also makes them in 155.5, 168, 173, 175, & 190. Awesome customer service and extremely good bullets. I've won the last two midrange matches I shot wth them. Anyway sorry I am not trying to jump on the thread.

the best performing 308 reamer we sell used with any factory and most custom loads is the 308 Bisley match. We sell alot of the 2011 fullbore palma reamers and the old 1995 palma but the Bisley is a very fine chamber It is .038 longer than the 95 palma . If anyone would like prints let me know and I will send them to you . Thanks Dave Kiff

Trust Dave on what he says . I've been doing business with him for years and have never been disappointed . Dave I just sent another post over to you for some custom reamer advice . I hope all this doesn't tie up your phones 8) ! Butch

Here's my .308 reamer. It is anything but generalized. This reamer is optimized for Berger 230 Hybrids. I turn necks to .012" wall thickness for .0045-.005" clearance. Whatever reamer you use, make sure that there is at least .004" diametral neck clearance for your ammunition.

Woww!!! Very long throat for 230 Hybrid. Have you ever test some lighter projectiles like 175 LRBT , 185 LRBT , 185 Hybrid with those chamber?

I have 2 reamers which order from Dave for F-TR. I prefer to use unturn Lapua Brass (Loaded Round NK measure .338")

So, Dave make me these reamers.

• For Mag Box , .342 nk , .088 fb , 1-30

• For Single Shot , .342 nk , .168 fb , 1-30

My friend had chamber a new barrel with my F-TR Reamer (.088 fb , Mag Box Spec)

Here is the 10 shots group at 200 yards.

Just worried about about another Single Shot Spec which may too long for my main projectiles

168 Hybrid
175 LRBT
185 Hybrid

No, it really is dedicated to 230's. I could probably shoot 215's okay but would use a little shorter freebore if that was the intent. My no-turn chambers have a Ø.342" neck. I use both a Palma '95 reamer for a magazine fed tactical rifle and a .188 freebore when shooting 210 LRBT.

I have used the .308 Bisley that I borrowed from Cigarcop and it was very good. I have to get around to getting one of my own.

Thumbs up to JERRYHM ,I too have the ptg reamer he speaks of and it does perform. 1/11 22" barrel 155 palma bullets can not be beat.
