What reamer do I need

Hello, I'm building a custom 338 RUM and have a question. When I order a reamer that will go along with the barrel to the gunsmith, what type of reamer do I need? I see several different types like rough and finish. I know that I'll need to know dimensions, but would I just order a finish reamer and let the smith figure the rest out?

I'd go to the smith with a clear understanding to what you want. He won't want to spend an hour walking you through it and if you get hurried, you might not get what you want.

for 1 chamber all you need is a finish reamer.

To order the reamer, you need freebore and neck diameter. I don't think there is much else for you to choose on this reamer. If you need help figuring out those 2 parameters, just ask. For freebore you'll need to know if you are mag feeding or not, what COAL you need, and what bullet you are planning to shoot. For neck diameter, you'll need to know what brass you plan to shoot and if you plan to neck turn.

If you can make up a dummy round of what you want to shoot, and send it to your reamer maker, they can make the reamer right to your round. It removes all of the guess work. All you should need is a finisher, and maybe a GO Gauge for your gunsmith if he doesnt have one. Be sure to ask your gunsmith if he uses a barrel flush system, because he will need the reamer to have oil grooves in the pilot.
