What primer with Lapua Palma Brass/

I have some of the new lapua Palma brass with the Small primer pocket. I was wondering if anyone had Experience with THIS brass and what primer worked best. I will be shooting 155 laods and Varget or RL-15.

Thanks,

Chris

Read the thread below. I asked Jerry what primer worked best.

I loaded my first 100 with some old (2004?) Federal 205M's off my primer shelf three weeks ago this week.

Same load of Varget behind the same Sierra 2156C bullets as I use with regular Lapua 308 brass, using either BR-2 or an early batch of the Russian KVB-7 primers.

Couldn't tell the difference on paper at 1k yards shooting at Midwest Palma.

(Understand that I shoot with irons & a sling; what difference there may be could be lurking well inside my wobble-zone.)

I think any quality brand of SR primers will work just fine with this new product from Lapua. I know I'll be buying more soon.

PLEASE NOTE that the Palma brass flash hole is smaller! LR decapping pins - .070" - will NOT work!

You'll need a decapping pin of .061" or you stand to ruin cases. Lapua suggests the same decapping pins as used in their 6BR brass or .220 Russian/PPC cases are suitable.

I have not found a small primer that did not work good in the new brass.
The best feature of this brass is I can't loosen the primer pockets (even with my loads), after more than 20 firings the pockets feel just as tight as a new case. I have been testing the new Lapua small primer 308 cases for one year.

Jerry, just out of curiosity, did you try the original Russian KVB-223 primers? Those that looked to be copper-plated?

I have a bunch left over from when I was working with the (then) new 6.5 Grendel in a spacegun upper. Had some problems with primers piercing in top-end loads with that hardware. I like the LR Russians (as long as I don't seat them too deep...) for their consistent low SD's & am wondering if their SR's will be trouble-free with Palma-level loads in these new Lapua cases?
