What powder has the same burn rate as Varget ?

And would it be a direct substitute?
I know there are charts, so is this a new powder?
Any experience?
Thanks Don

Lovex S062 = Shooters World Precision, supposedly an extremely close grain for grain equivalent to Varget.

In my experience I have had better luck with IMR4064 over Varget in just about any cartridge I have ever tried them in. I've never understood the love for Varget its never performed the way I would like it to for me.

Oh, consecutive sub 2" groups at 1000 yds is a reason to like Varget. Too bad it wasn't during a match........... ;)

Since I have more I start with H4895, but often wind up back with Varget. No powder is perfect, but I moved on from powders that aren't reasonably temp stable a couple decades ago. IMR 4166 is supposed to be temp stable and close to Varget.

The bottom line is different stuff works for different guys.........

Good luck. Varget has frustrated me so many times but only because of availability and lot to lot inconsistency. I have tried leaving it many times for several other powders but always return. Its performance is hard to beat and working up a load for new lots is always within .5gr anyway and I have to work up the other powders anyway. Just buy 16-24# at a time and you are good to go.

At least for f class that is. Not sure what application you need it for.

You will hear others raving about other powders but more often than not, it comes down to sponsorships at certain levels and they promote who sponsors them.

In my latest cat efforts, Lovex Precision Rifle powder does
show a lot of promise. So far not a real temp test but in
some very cool mornings to hot afternoons, numbers are
real good. I'm thinking this could be like the Beginning of
Reloder 16. Every body piled on when H4350 disappeared.

I haven't been able to test it myself yet, but have been told that Norma 203B is basically "varget in a different bottle". Again, just what I've heard among fellow shooters.

Yesterday I tested Varget against Shooters World Precision S062. I ran 5 shot groups of each, both loaded at 35 grs of powder, shooting my 22-250 rifle. Varget averaged 3553 FPS while Shooters World averaged 3547 FPS.

I don't know if one is rated hotter than the other but they seem to be equal to me.

I loaded 50 rounds of each, and repeatedly shot very tight most one jagged hole but many very tight. I can't see the difference between the two.

I was lucky last year as I bought 3 lbs for a little over $21.00 a pound. I liked it so much I bought an 8 lb jug for $151 and some change.

Definitely not. It appears to be the same thing as Alliant Re15 - if not it's so close you'd have difficulty is separating them. It also comes out of the same factory - both are made by Eurenco Bofors in Karlskoga, Sweden. VarGet on the other hand comes literally from the other end of the planet - Thales Australia / ADI's plant in Mulwala, New South Wales Australia.

VarGet alternatives? Look at:

Alliant Re15 (also the new temperature stable Reloder TS 15.5 when it appears?)

Norma 203-B

IMR-4166

Lovex SO62 aka Shooters World 'Precision'

Reload Swiss RS50 and RS52 if in the UK / Europe

Ramshot TAC

Viht N140 and in some applications N150

SO62 / 'Precision' was until 19 years ago sold in the US as AAC-4064 which gives an excellent pointer as to how it performs, ie very closely to the antediluvian but still very flexible and good performing IMR-4064. It is however much smaller grained than the old IMR powder.
