What powder for 80 grain ppc

I wanted to try a little experiment with 80 grain Speer Bullets in my 6ppc Viper HV barrel before I screw it off and put on a new barrel. What powder should I try. I have H4198, H322 and V133 plus some IMR 3031. This is a very strong action but I don't want to get in trouble with a bullet 15 grains heavier than I am used to shooting in this caliber. Any suggestions? Thanks. Tom

Several of us have tried bullets all the way up to 107 grains in a straight 6PPC. The powders that work best are in the 4895 burning range. V V 135 works well as does W 748.

Twist may be your biggest worry.

Ray, I have a surplus powder that falls between 3031 and 4895 that I might try. I was trying this experiment to see if the 13.5 twist I have will stabilize this bullet. Thanks. Tom

I had been shooting 80 Bergers in a 12 twist PPC and getting good results with varget and reloader 15 velocity is at 2850 fps and groups hoverd at.250 but not enough case capacity get over 2900 fps in my Hart barrel.

I did experiment with the faster traditional ppc powders and got the 80 berger up to 3100fps with N133 and H332 but the groups were around .750.

Not satisfied with the above results I switched to the Berger 69 gr High BC FB with a BC of.308.The 80 FB has a BC of .324 so I wasn't giving up to much and Berger recommends a 12 twist for both bullets.I went back to N133 with the 69 gr and am getting 3300 fps behind 28grs of powder.Groups will pretty much stay at .200 and several have gone in the mid ones at 100 yds.

Thanks Steve. I would be tickled with a .75 group with an 80 grain bullet at 3100 fps for my application. This rifle will shoot 66 grain bullets in the 1's and 2's when I do my part, and this particular barrel will still agg in the 3's with 2200 rounds.
