What!? No primers?

Does any one know where to get Federal 215M primers? Everyone seems to be out of stock. My new rifle is finished, I'm ready to start reloading, but no Federal primers seem to be available.

Canadian retailers are saying Federal is back ordered into 2011. Federal layed off workers in anticipation of the recession.

Resupplying troops in Iraq and Afghanistan is another problem. They have been over there for eight years now. Production for the military has first dibs on primers.

Civilian hording compounds the situation. Canadian suppliers have wised up and are limiting individual sales of primers.

I found a bunch of regular (non match) large and small rifle Federal primers at a Sportsman Warehouse about one month ago. I could have bought several thousand of them if I used the regular primers. Two weeks ago I found Federal 205M primers locally in Portland, OR. I bought a thousand and could have gotten more, but decided not to get greedy and let someone else get a share. Bruno's Shooting supply currently have the 215Ms in stock, but they will cost you $55 a thousand. I paid $45 for the 205Ms I bought, but I didn't have much choice. They had them and I didn't.

This was the first time I've seen any Federal primers in about 8 months. I don't think I would conclude the Federal primer situation is better, but I am hopeful it is getting that way. Locally I can get as many CCI primers that I could possibly use. No match CCI primers though, however they don't normally carry them anyway.

Update - Just found CCI BR4 small rifle primers in stock at Powder Valley for the low price of $37 for anyone that might be needing these.

Shortage? I've been assured by many handloaders that one merely needs to search-out all sources. YOU are not exhausting all possibilities! I find myself primer-poor because I am apparently lazy in my search. Large Pistol primers as a for instance are QUITE impossible to find. Some people will say this source has tons of them, but when I check, this source is out until further notice. Primers seem to be GOLD, at least pricewise, yet whatever the price: the source is OUT of them. Cliffy

I know a guy that bought 150K primers. No wonder we have a limited supply!

So did I, along with many pounds of any powders I might need for the next who knows how many years before this clears up, if it does.

My competitive shooting is not to suffer because I can't walk in and buy 100 at a time from some shop.

Cliffy...glad your back
