What muzzle Brake for 260. rem build with Rem Varmint Contour Barrel?

Reason i list barrel is because i know so people on a little lighter contour prefer a 1/2-28 thread which can sometimes limit your choices with a 6.5 cal. Barrel will be benchmark, which brake should i use?

This rifle will mainly be a target/plinking varmint rifle. Next summer i will be trying my luck out in PRS/target rifle/precision sniper matches. Will be my first time testing my luck in competition, but since my main shooting area is on a local boys property where coyote hunting and crows make a good target they will be thrown in the mix as well.

You definitely want some sort of gill brake for prone-shooting. A radial brake will kick debris all over you and the shooters that are on either side of you. I have a Miculek on my .308 and have not shot it yet. When the barrel was chambered in .308 AI the brake worked fine on the ground or off the bench.

I would recommend a Harrel's tactical version. Had good results with them and the price is hard to beat.

Yes they are awesome. Reduce recoil better than any other I have tried and don't harm accuracy.

Ross Schulers brake 208-587-8993 About $45 I would get a 5/8x24 thread then have your smith contour it to your barrel like this. Lower picture of 4 port brake on my 7mag. Reduces recoil very well and unscrews right off.

For that varmint contour you should use the 5/8x24 ,, give you lots of options later.
Check out the Assassin muzzle brake from jecustom http://www.jecustom.com. I have his brake on several of my rifles from .223 to .300 RUM, the recoil reduction is fantastic, virtually eliminating all recoil from gas pressure. All the details are on the website, and some videos to see it in action.

picture is of my .308 varmint with brake.

Forgot to mention, I would never buy a brake that the threads were made with a tap and not single pointed at the same time on a CNC machine. I bought a tapped brake and the runout with the o.d. and i.d. was .015 at the muzzle end of the brake. Harrel's are not tapped.

There are a bunch of them that will fit the bill. I have used Holland, Badger Ordnance and American Precision Arms "Little Bastard" All three are high quality, but for performance and customer service I will continue to use the Little Bastard. My recent 6.5x47 wears one.

I don't know why you can't use 5/8-24 with a Rem. Varmint contour. Works for me. But as far as the brake is concerned, I would get one that you can mount a suppressor on (for the suppressor you know you're going to buy). The brake mounts for the SilencerCo SpecWar 762 and the Thunderbeast 30BA suppressors are actually quite good muzzle brakes.

The Miculek I have came with the rifle when I bought it. I have had a few Harrell's radial brakes. With that being said, if I have a need for another Tac type brake, and I hope I do, it will be a Harrell's Tac brake.

My thought for that cartridge is to go without, but I understand brakes are used on almost all of the PRS type guns. The brakes I like are the APA little bastard and the Harrel's.

There is an equipment listing from some of the bigger matches over on Snipers Hide, what surprised me was 1) the length of the barrels that the top shooters are using, much longer than I expected form the "tactical" crowd; 2) the lack of muzzle devices; and 3) that most of the big dogs were running 6mms.

After considering #3 then #2 made more sense. (that and brakes can be harder on your spotter)

But, if I were shopping I'd get a Harrel's

Thank you for the correction. Check out this link to the PrecisionRifleBlog. He did a survey of the top 50 shooters that were invited to the PRS Finale in 2013. 31 of 50 used a muzzle brake, 13 of 50 used a suppressor, 7 of 50 used both, and 5 of 50 used neither. It also give details of the brand of muzzle brakes being used and has pictures.
