I have a minty gloss 2x7x40mm Leupold scope that web searches come up empty on. I believe the scope was sent to Leupold for some reason before it came into my possession due to it having a mismatched objective locking ring. On the ring it says 3x9 VARI-XII but the zoom ring is marked 2 through 7 and has hard stops at those max and minimum settings. The web doesn't turn up anything in 2x7 with a 40mm objective and I have confirmed with my caliper that it is a 40mm objective. The serial number has a T suffix indicating a 2008 manufacture year. Any ideas? IF this a counterfeit scope it's a masterpiece. I have sent a message to Leupold including the serial number to get their input on it.
UPDATE ........Today I got an email from Leupold and after looking at pics that I sent them the technician says the scope is 100% legit and that it must have been repaired with incorrect parts. He also said that I could send it in to be correctly rebuilt. My plans are for it to go on a Remington 541 S or maybe a T. So, do I want to keep it as a 2x7 or send it back and get a 3x9 out of it? I think I'll keep it for the unicorn that it is.
