What Kind of bullet?

I am going to reload for my .300 ultra and i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I am going to be shooting long range targets.,around 300-400) yards. I was just curious if anyone has a preferred load that works well in those ranges. Thanks again...

I just came in from the cold so you'll have to excuse me, but why in the world do you need, or want, a 300 Ultra for shooting long range at 300 to 400 yards ???
Don't get me wrong, I see no reason not to have one, I'm just a bit mind boggled over the distances and the cartridge....
Maybe when I warm up it'll come to me :)

I dont know. over the past few weekends i have been shooting between 300 and 400 yards with it and it seems fun to me i guess. All i would like to do now is get a decent load worked up.

Shooting anytime, anywhere is alway a fun thing....
Keep it up it's good for the soul.

The big Berger's will be a good place to start.. depending.
Let us all in on the particulars of what you have, and watch the fun start.

My 300 RUM shot the Nosler CT BT 168's really good. My pet load was Rem brass, Fed. 215 primer, 94.0 gr. RL-22. You might want to back off a couple of grains or so and work up just for safety. My COL to bullet tip was 3.680. I have app. 100 pc. of brass and most of it never fired if you might be interested. Bill

Start with at least Sierra's 190's and go up from there.

The Ultra shines with big bullets and Hodgden's Retumbo.

Buy plenty cause a pound don't go far.

300-400yds. tain't quite long range, yet.

You can load any ole bullet to get that far.

Hang on tight,

Al.

Right on thanks for all of the replies. I know 300-400 yards inst very far but for a shooter that has shot @ 200 yards only a few times and 100 yards the rest of the time it is lol. Well to answer someones question it is a remington Sendero with a 26" barrel with a 1-10" twist. So you guys think 210SMK's eh? I guess i will try them next time. i just got done loading up some 165gr Nosler accubonds w/96grs of Rel 22, cci 250 primers, and a c.o.l. of 3.69". I also loaded up some 180gr Nosler Accubonds w/90 grs or Rel 22, Win large rifle primers, and a COL of 3.60" and 3.69". Heh I also did a few 125gr NBT. Heh well hopefully at least one of them shoots well eh? Meh It's still fun even if they dont shoot very well. Thanks...

I shoot 178gramax bullets in my sendero. It shoots extremely well. I have shot 94.5gr of re25 with a 215 primer for bare 178amaxs. I have shot 96.3gr re25 with a 215 primer for moly coated 178gr amaxs. They really flatten deer!!!!

Hey I just checked my e-mail and i got those pics of the rifle. Man i tell you what it sure is a beautiful lookin gun. Well let me check my seller out here in a couple of days and if he still hasn't gotten one I will surely look into yours if you don't mind. Thanks again man....

Well I placed an order with Midway last night for a new trigger for the .300 ultra, some 190gr SMK's, and some 210gr SMK's. Boy I cant wait for the trigger to get here. I think it will be a hell of an improvment!!! Now all I have to do is figure out how to install it lol. Does anyone have any instructions on how to do this? I have never replaced a trigger before. Thanks....

Sure thing man. If you decide to buy my rifle I will go ahead and toss in that 300 RUM brass. I probably will not purchase another RUM. Lots of "PUNCH" that I can't drink. LOL Bill

Hey Man, Does your rifle have the new type trigger? If it does your safety linkage will be too short. There is a kit available from Midway and Brownells to solve that problem. If it is the old style then you are ok. I may have an old web-site address that has the procedure typed out. If I can find it I will post it here for you. Give me a few min. Bill

OK Man. Here is your web-site. www.snipercountry.com/RemingtonTriggers.htm
Go to this web-site and print this out. Read it over a few times while you are waiting on your trigger to come. I will PM you with my phone # so if you have any problems you can give me a call. I can talk you thru the parts that give you trouble if any of it does. That's as close as I can get to changing it for you. LOL Bill

LOL right on man that would be awesome. About how long do ya think it will take? A hour or 2? I really appreciate the help. Got a question for ya. Have you ever had any experience with mercury recoil reducers? i haven't really been exposed to them and I was wondering if you knew if they worked or what not. Thanks....

Well, you are going to want to take your time and just don't get in a hurry. It will probably take over an hour or so. You will want to torque the action screws back to 65 in. lbs. This is important because sometimes changing tension on those screws will change the impact and grouping of the rifle. Sorry man, I have no experience with those recoil reducers either. I have heard that they work but never actually been exposed to one of them. Bill
