What is your setup for Reloading at the Range??

I'm curious to see what everyone is using for their portable range set up..... What press and dies? what type of scale, and how bout powder dispenser and primer tool?? Do you just C clamp everything to the bench? or do you have a range box with everything set up ready to go. Pictures would be helpful as well.

Thanks

Same setup that I use at home. Harrell's press, Hornady and RCBS hand primers, Redding and Forster bushing dies. RCBS Chargemaster electric scale/powder measure and an RCBS 10/10 scale to verify powder.

I do have 2 Craftsman toolboxes that hold everything except the Chargemaster. That way, all of my reloading tools stay organized and in one place. Our rifle range has club houses at each of the individual ranges with electric, so powering the Chargemaster isn't an issue for me. The press clamps to the edge of the tables. I also have a Harrell's powder measure that I used to use but don't anymore since I have the RCBS unit now.

I have another large Craftsman toolbox that holds all of my cleaning supplies and assorted tools; bore guides, torque wrench, gunsmith screwdriver kit, recoil lug cleaning tool....just about everything you can think of that you might have use for. It's a big toolbox.

Packing up for a day at the range requires several trips and just about fills up the back of my Explorer. Hard cases, 2 front rests, giant Edgewood Gator rear bag, Tupperware box for all of the targets, windflags, chronograph, Kowa spotting scope and 4 foot stand. It's a bunch to lug back and forth.

I have a short article with pictures of my setup and a friend's very different setup here: http://riflemansjournal.blogspot.com/2009/12/reloading-range-reloading.html

I really wish we had a clubhouse and power on our ranges like Steve has in St. Louis! Trying to weigh powder with the wind blowing is next to impossible and is my constant source of frustration.

A rechargeable gel type battery or an "8 Pack" D-Cell battery holder from Radio Shack works great if you don't have electricity nearby.

I’ve been pondering this for some time now.

A very good friend purchased a new trailer recently. He customized it and turned it into a reloading palace. Its quite impressive to day the least. I am not ready to go to that extent yet.

Curious to see some set-ups. I started a thread in another forum I am a member of but didn’t yield too much. I figure this forum is much better suited for this/these question(s).

Does anyone preload premeasure cartridges at the house into a cartridge box. Cover with thin foam to contain for transport, handle gently then seat as desired at the bench at the range?
I have considered this. Anything you dont like dump back when you get home. My disorganisational skills really want simple.
It limits field measure but allows some variety once there.
Powder scales wind, mag dumpers on the next bench.....

This is my lifesaver for running my chargemaster...

20160624_124753.jpg 20181220_163129.jpg This is everything that goes to the range with me. Doesn't matter if I'm practicing, tuning, or going to a match. Sinclair press, Harrell sizing die, Wilson seater, Gem pro 250 scale, and yes, a Lee powder measure (hey, it gets the powder in the case! Lol!) I load out of this whether I'm at home or the range.

I used to use a simple setup. Wilson arbor for seating, battery scale etc but the wind blowing powder out of the pan was such a headache I gave up on it. I tried a few setups to to block the wind but none really did the job well enough including loading in the back of my SUV

I use a RCBS partner and/or an arbor press for sizing/seating depending on the dies. I try mightily to keep my range loading to seating only because dealing with powder and scales outdoors is a pain.

Some guys use little 1 dram glass vials (you can get them on amazon cheap) to hold individual charges.

If possible, I skip the vials and just load all of the rounds long, and then seat them shorter as needed at the range.

At 6.1m mine sleeps two, feeds two, showers two for a week without restocking and has a bench for reloading. Runs on Solar power or backup generator if needed takes care of the electrics. Tows pretty easy as well.

I preload glass vials at home with powder charges I want to test. Often I will pack the desired charge and some a few tenths either side. I have learned to preload what I may need. It takes only seconds to load at the range.

i too tried various wind beater techniques and none were suitable. so, i stay with powders that meter well, use the micrometer attachment on this powder measure, and carry a dope chart of wts vs settings verified during the previous nights loading session. powder, bullets, dies, emergency digital scale and hand tools all fit in the ammo can. the powder measure bracket swings away on the top of the can.
