Now my answer is the one you can get. Tommy McNot sure how many 6.5 PRC shooters there are here but what is the primer of choice for 6.5 PRC, large rifle Fed210m/CCI BR2 or Mag primers like the Fed215m/CCI 250???
I have had best results with magnum primers thus far. The last PRC I worked up shot only so so with standard primers. Switched to a magnum primer and groups shrunk considerably.
I'm in very good supply with Fed M and CCI BR primers. Good on RL26, N565, N570, H1000 and a few others that may be used in the 6.5 PRC too. Brass on the other hand, not so much. I was able to talk a friend out of 50 pcs of new unprimed ADG brass and I have a couple hundred rnds of Hornady 147 Match ammo. It would be nice if Lapua would hurry up with their new PRC brass but I'm hearing we won't see any of that till the end of the second quarter of 2021 which sucks balls but things could be worse so I won't complain to much. Now my answer is the one you can get. One of my range buddies built a 6.5 PRC last year.Seems as though the masses are using Large Rifle primers and only a few are using Mag LR primers.
Wondering if large rifle is the preferred choice because that's what guys have more of or because they tested both and large rifle just worked better than magnum large rifle primers....
He must enjoy testing more than just shooting! One of my range buddies built a 6.5 PRC last year.
So far, the powder/primer combos that have worked the best, in order, RL26, H1000, RL23, and still messing with N565. RL26 & H1000 have preferred BR2’s, followed by Rem9.5’s.
RL23 liked BR2’s & Rem9.5’s. They both held the same level of accuracy and node width at distance.
N565 seems to prefer 250’s followed by 215M’s but still testing so take this one with a grain of salt.
Each of the 4 powders above were tested with BR2’s, 210M’s, Rem9.5’s, 250’s, and 215M’s.
Every receiver/barrel will pick what it likes but this should be a good base line. Good luck!
