What is the difference between 6.5x284 hornady and the norma version?

I don't think there's a difference. Are you sure there is such a thing as "6.5-284 Hornady"? I know that they sell "6.5-284" brass (not designated "Norma" or otherwise). To me it looks just like regular 6.5-284 Norma, and MidwayUSA lists Hornady's 6.5-284 brass and dies as being for "regular" 6.5-284 Norma.

The brass costs the same as Lapua or Norma, so personally I'd pass.

There is a difference, I am not sure any more what it is but many years ago when Col. Billy built my rifle he asked me what brass I was using and what dies I had bought. I think if you get the dies and the chamber the same it doesn't matter much, you may have to size new brass is all. My dies say 6.5-284 Winchester (redding bushing dies) I was told they were to be used with Win or Lapua brass. Norma brass may be what was different.

I've heard of
"6.5-284 Norma"
and
"6.5-284 Winchester"
but I never heard of
"6.5-284 Hornady"
(Not that that means anything.)

Last I heard Hornady brass was made by Winchester. Although it is inspected by Hornady and if not up to their standards it is returned to Winchester. (Olin)

I do not think there is a difference. I believe that it was originally a Norma round and then, as is usually the case, everybody else got on the bandwagon.
